Tasks
The Linux Engineer II is responsible for the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of EPB’s Linux-based systems within the Information Technology Engineering division. This role supports ongoing projects and operational initiatives, ensuring system reliability, security, and performance. The engineer collaborates with project managers, system administrators, and cross-functional teams to deliver stable, scalable infrastructure solutions. -Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and documentation for system changes. -Support internal customers and maintain a strong focus on customer service and timely issue resolution. -Assist with UCS (Cisco Unified Computing System) infrastructure management and integration. -Perform routine system monitoring, verify system integrity, and review performance metrics. -Monitor and respond to system alerts, including participation in on-call rotations as needed to maintain uptime and service levels. -Participate in disaster recovery and backup operations to ensure business continuity. -Assist in configuration and deployment of Linux-based infrastructure across EPB’s data centers and cloud environments. -Identify opportunities to improve automation, system performance, and overall efficiency. -Support and troubleshoot server hardware, virtualization platforms, and operating systems. -Participate in the evaluation and testing of new technologies to support system modernization efforts. -Work with cloud and hybrid environments (AWS, Azure, or similar) to support EPB’s IT infrastructure initiatives. -Collaborate with peers to implement secure, reliable, and efficient systems in accordance with EPB policies. -Administer and maintain EPB’s Linux environments (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS, or similar). -Perform patching, updates, and vulnerability remediation following security best practices.

What You Bring
-Exposure to cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid infrastructures is a plus. -Experience with monitoring tools such as Splunk or WhatsUp Gold. -Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible. -Maintain and update configuration management scripts and tools; Ansible experience preferred. -Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy. -Familiarity with networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, firewalls). -Industry certifications such as RHCSA, CompTIA Linux+, or equivalent are preferred. -Basic scripting experience (Bash, Python, or similar) for automation and troubleshooting. -Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered. -3–5 years of professional experience supporting Linux environments in a production setting. -Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. -Hands-on experience with Cisco UCS, virtualization technologies (VMware, Openshift), and storage management. -Excellent communication and documentation skills, both written and verbal.
