Tasks

Operations is at the heart of keeping the strategic road network moving and ensuring our customers get the best possible experience when using our roads. We address over 39,000 customer enquiries every month, plan and deliver all maintenance activities on the network, drive efficiencies and improvements across our systems and roads, and respond to incidents across 4,500 miles of motorways and major A-roads that we manage. All to make sure National Highways customers have safer, smoother, and more reliable journeys. National Highways have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Technology Engineer to join our team in the South East. As a Senior Engineer, you will provide technical expertise in the identification and evaluation of technology asset specific needs and early solutions, while assuring adherence to defined asset policies and standards. -Undertaking feasibility studies, investigations, and technology research to provide innovative solutions. -Reviewing third-party designs for compliance to design and maintenance requirements. -Developing early solutions for improvements and/or renewals, including the compiling of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account new techniques, materials, buildability and costs. -Identifying, preparing briefs and managing delivery of survey works that support the improvement and/or renewal of assets. -Providing technical support to Project Managers by assisting with materials approvals, vetting of contractors’ compliance, inspection support on site, and reviewing health and safety files. -Developing the regions asset led forward programme and initial scheme development.

What You Bring

This position will be based in Basingstoke, Guildford or Maidstone with a balance of remote and office-based work. Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment. -Experience of ITS (Intelligent Transport system) -Knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application on the highways network -A Chartered or Incorporated Engineer and member of a relevant professional Body with appropriate experience -Degree or HND in related discipline and appropriate experience, or equivalent -Strong understanding of CDM 2015

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
