The Role

Overview

Mid-level civil engineering tech leading/inspecting WisDOT highway projects.

Tasks

-Conduct or observe field testing of materials (concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates) in accordance with WisDOT requirements. -Perform or support team with project documentation, pay estimates, and plan interpretation. -Lead projects and/or perform daily construction inspection on WisDOT highway and bridge projects, ensuring contractor compliance with project plans, specifications, and standards. -Assist with traffic control checks, erosion control monitoring, and safety compliance. -Pushing, pulling, and lifting of equipment or materials -Communicate and coordinate with project engineers, contractors, and WisDOT staff to address issues in the field. -Document field activities, track quantities, and prepare daily inspection reports using WisDOT-approved systems (e.g., AASHTOWare Project).

What You Bring

-Use of a keyboard -Excessive standing or walking on uneven terrain -Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with team members & clients. -Occasional travel required for meetings, training, and events -WisDOT HTCP certifications (Aggregates, Concrete, Asphalt, Density) strongly preferred; ability to obtain if not already certified. -Ability to lift at least 25lbs. -Prolonged periods on construction sites in all-season weather conditions -Familiarity with WisDOT specifications, standards, and documentation procedures (preferred) -Authorization to work in the United States for any employer. We will not provide sponsorship for this position. -Computer literacy, including use of relevant communication and file organization software. -Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. -Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. -6-15+ years of experience in roadway or bridge construction inspection -Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field -Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills. -Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities. -Strong oral and written communication skills to work effectively in the field with contractors, WisDOT, and project teams.
