Overview

Assist in design and inspection of highway structures as a structural engineering intern.

Tasks

-Review shop drawings. -Assist in the inspection of bridges, culverts, and tunnels. -Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. -Prepare engineering related calculations. -Perform quantity takeoffs and cost estimates. -Prepare details for construction drawings using CAD software. -Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.

What You Bring

-Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or in another related field and must have completed at least 1 year of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and plan to continue with the Master’s Degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship. -Proficiency in developing calculations using software like Excel or Mathcad. -Familiarity with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD. -Interest in bridge design is desired. -Ability to follow procedures and pay attention to detail. -Valid U.S driver’s license. -Completed courses related to statics, strength of materials, introductory steel design, and introductory reinforced concrete design. -Good written and oral communications skills.
