Tasks
The Transformer Test Engineer will develop test procedures, oversee routine and type tests, analyze test results, and drive corrective actions to ensure product reliability and safety. This is a hands-on, high-impact role within the final stages of transformer manufacturing. -Perform and oversee routine and type tests including: -Prepare complete and accurate Final Test Reports (FTRs) for internal teams and customer submittal. -Ensure all test instruments (TTR, Doble, Omicron, resistance testers, PD detection equipment) are calibrated and functioning properly. -Troubleshoot testing issues, equipment irregularities, or abnormal readings; provide risk-based recommendations. -Maintain a safe working environment around energized transformers and high-voltage test equipment. -Develop and update test procedures, work instructions, and SOPs to reflect best practices and industry standards. -Ensure transformers meet applicable IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, and customer specifications. -Enforce strict adherence to electrical safety protocols and lockout/tagout procedures. -Partner with Quality to resolve nonconformances, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives. -Support Production teams in troubleshooting assembly, connection, or configuration issues discovered during testing. -Maintain strict documentation and traceability throughout the test process. -Analyze test data, identify variances, and evaluate root causes of deviations or failures. -Participate in Lean/Kaizen activities to improve test cycle time and reduce rework. -Work closely with Design Engineering to interpret test results, identify specification gaps, and support design improvements. -Assist in test plan creation for prototype units, new product introductions (NPIs), and engineering change orders (ECOs). -Work with high-voltage, engineered-to-order products critical to grid reliability. -Recommend upgrades to test equipment, diagnostic tools, and methods to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Virginia Transformer Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Transformer Test Engineer to support the electrical testing, performance validation, and final qualification of power transformers before shipment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring each transformer meets customer specifications, IEEE/ANSI/IEC standards, and internal quality requirements. -TTR meters -Hands-on experience with test equipment such as: -Knowledge of IEEE C57 series standards and application guidelines. -Strong communication skills for interfacing with engineering, production, customers, and auditors. -Turns Ratio (TTR) -High-impact technical role with visibility across engineering, QA, and plant leadership. -2–5 years of experience in transformer testing, electrical testing, or high-voltage engineering. -Familiarity with factory acceptance testing (FAT) for utility and industrial transformers. -Ability to interpret single-line diagrams, schematics, and transformer nameplate data. -Strong understanding of transformer theory: winding design, magnetics, insulation systems, vector groups, tap changers, etc. -Applied Voltage (Hi-Pot) -Winding Resistance -Experience in power transformer manufacturing or high-voltage electrical equipment. -Induced Voltage Test -Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills. -Omicron CPC/Doble equipment -Lean/Six Sigma or process improvement experience. -Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field required.
