Overview
Lead civil engineer for rail/transit projects managing design, resources, and compliance

Tasks
-Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, codes, and industry standards -Collaborate with the Project Manager and other Discipline Leads to develop detailed plans for the execution of civil engineering tasks -Establish clear communication channels with project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and other relevant parties. Provide updates on progress and address any technical concerns or inquiries -Manage and coordinate field inspections of engineering designs and liaise with team members, clients, and agencies -Identify potential risks and challenges specific to civil engineering and develop effective mitigation strategies to avoid delays and cost overruns -Ensure all engineering and design activities align with best practices, industry standards, and project requirements -Oversee the comprehensive scope and design management for roadway, drainage, utilities, and traffic -Manage the allocation of resources and budget for civil engineering tasks. Planning and proactively identifying resource needs and provide justifications for additional support, if required -Prepare technical analyses and designs, technical reports, construction cost estimates, contract specifications/documentation, and review shop drawings -Monitor and track progress to ensure timely delivery of high-quality outputs -Oversee the development and review of Basis of Design documents for civil discipline, Level of Development (LOD) for BIM-enabled design, combined services drawings, engineering reports, and specifications -Implement rigorous quality control measures, ensuring all deliverables meet established quality standards and regulatory requirements -Enhance the world around you - from the environment to the highways, to the buildings and the terrain, WSP is the fabric of Canada. -Lead the development and review of engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and specifications for rail and transit projects -Serve as the subject matter expert in civil engineering, providing technical leadership and guidance to the project team

What You Bring
-Experience working with rail and transit projects is considered an asset -Proficiency in relevant engineering software and tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Water/Sewer GEMS, EPANET) -Adaptability and flexibility include the ability to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity, and change -Strategic, conceptual analytical thinking and decision-making skills -In-depth knowledge of civil engineering principles, standards, and best practices -Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills -Good technical writing skills and command of the English language, both written and verbal -Demonstrated willingness to learn -Must possess sound judgment, strong organizational, administrative, observational, and problem-solving skills -Familiarity with applicable regulations, codes, and safety standards in the rail and transit industry, environmental and other relevant regulatory bodies permitting process including compliance with City of Toronto and municipal projects -A vehicle and a valid driver’s license will be required -Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited university; a master’s degree is desirable -10-15 years of experience of leading and managing engineering teams in the context of alternate delivery projects for municipal, provincial and/or federal clients, preferably within the rail and transit sector -Experience in a Consulting Engineering environment is an asset -Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in the province of Ontario -Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) would be considered an asset -Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to facilitate effective collaboration and coordination within the discipline and across project teams -Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience, competence in clear, concise, and tactful communication with senior management, clients, peers, and staff
