The Role

Overview

Lead subsurface utility projects, overseeing staff, budgets, and client deliverables.

Tasks

-Supervise staff and provide positive direction and constructive criticism. -Coordinate with departmental admin staff to organize and maintain proper filing of project and general information. -Works with Billing Managers to develop project invoices with accounting support. -Work with APM and Field Supervisor to develop and implement project schedules. -Seek out opportunities for involvement with local industry groups, especially those that focus on engineering, construction, excavation, and utilities. -Supervise staff and provide positive direction, constructive criticism and recommend disciplinary actions when necessary. -Coordinate overall department and personnel schedule, maintain frequently to ensure ability to respond to customer needs and potential new projects -Review plans, specifications, cost estimates, permits, and other contract documents. -Act as a mentor to junior staff. -Work with other divisions to identify potential new project opportunities and “multi-lining” existing clients. Maintain good working relationships with department heads and in-house staff. -Manage staff and current projects to ensure effective and positive outcomes. -Train/instruct staff in proper job performance, set positive examples in behavior and work ethic. -Prepare Proposals, Expression of Interest, and Work Authorizations for assigned projects in concert with APM, GDL, RDL. -Set positive examples in behavior and work ethic. -Develop and apply knowledge and experience with preparing proposals, developing budgets, tracking budgets and the associated financial management skills necessary to run a team and monitor the performance of assigned projects. Provide clients with proper back-up data (designating reports, test hole reports, field sketches, CAD files, etc.). -Prepare for and attend client/agency meetings with or without GDL/RDL to present information pertinent to the project. -Coordinate with local municipalities to obtain proper certs and permits for work in their jurisdictions. -Maintain and utilize working knowledge of accepted discipline practice, scientific principles, regulatory programs, and field standards and practices in the execution of assigned work activities. -Coordinate with GDL to formulate & maintain department revenue budget/goal. -Provide performance goals for assigned staff and provide feedback to review job performance. -Identify opportunities to Cross Sell all our services. -Weekly review assigned staff field efforts and reports to ensure optimum utilization and recommend / manage issues related to not meeting billing goals/billable hours. -While maintaining regional focus, coordinate with Discipline Leader, Regional Director and other GDL’s to assist with project efforts outside of the region when requested. -Review project requirements and determine ability to perform the required work and ability to dispatch personnel within the project schedule. -Work with marketing and admin staff to develop & deploy marketing and advertising opportunities. -Work to ensure departmental coordination on projects. -Manage project schedules, budgets, and QC/QA plans. -Participate in group conference calls, coordination efforts and reporting. -Review contract documents and address concerns with GDL. -Identify learning and training opportunities to improve staff effectiveness and foster pride in work product.

What You Bring

-Extensive knowledge of ASCE 38, familiar with related standards; CGA, PHMSA, APWA. -Excel in the ability to learn, apply and teach others technical skills and knowledge. -Strong oral and written client communication both internal and external. -Strong written and oral communication skills. -5+ years of related experience at an Assistant PM or PM level. -Valid driver’s license preferred, OSHA 10 & 30 Hour. -Strong organizational skills with a keen ability to prioritize and multi-task. -Strong background in SUE (Performing/Managing ASCE compliant SUE). -Ability to deliver technical presentations, educational/marketing discussions with new or prospective clients. -Keen eye for detail. -Ability to manage multiple projects at one time. -Interpersonal skills, ability to effectively work well with and communicate with others. -Bachelor’s Degree Preferred, Strong SUE background. -Ability to manage staff. -NYSDOT 18.2.1, 18.3.1, 18.6.1. -Proficient in MS Office, BlueBeam, Field Aware and/or other related software. -Conformance to company standards. -Ability to interpret plans, specifications and requirements for preparing SUE proposals and deliverables.
