Electrical Estimator (Division 26; collaboration with 27/28)

Birdi Systems, Inc.

The Role

Overview

Electrical estimator for Division 26, estimating power systems, coordinating with low‑voltage/security.

Key Responsibilities

  • quantity takeoffs
  • cost estimating
  • vendor coordination
  • design review
  • scope matrix
  • proposal development

Tasks

Estimate Division 26 (Electrical) scopes for a systems integration contractor, partnering closely with low-voltage and security estimators across Div. 27 (Communications) and Div. 28 (Electronic Safety & Security). Produce accurate takeoffs, pricing, and proposal deliverables from concept through GMP/bid, and drive a clean turnover to preconstruction and operations. -Maintain market intel for labor rates, and escalation; perform sensitivity analyses. -Build detailed quantity takeoffs, labor units, and production rates; apply crew mix, shift factors, congestion, and logistics. -Interpret drawings/specs (Div. 00–28) and addenda; ensure compliance with industry standards, BICSI best practices. -Price indirects, general conditions, OH&P, escalation, and risk/contingency; maintain a clear Basis of Estimate (assumptions/exclusions). -Use company templates/QA checklists; contribute to cost history database and unit-price libraries for Div. 26 assemblies. -Lead estimate reviews with Precon/Operations; prepare buy-out strategy, vendor lists, long-lead trackers (gear, lighting controls), and early procurement recommendations. -Maintain a scope matrix across 26/27/28 to clarify responsibilities (who owns cabling, terminations, programming, commissioning, as-builts). -Level vendor/sub quotes; assemble bid tabs; identify scope gaps and alternates/VE options with cost and schedule impacts. -Develop conceptual, schematic, DD, CD, and GMP/bid estimates for: -Participate in design reviews and RFIs regarding telecom rooms/IDFs/MDFs, PoE power budgets, raceway coordination, and life-safety power interfaces. -Support proposal narratives, alternates, and value engineering aimed at lifecycle cost, energy efficiency, and maintainability. -Provide mentorship to junior estimators on takeoff methods, WBS/CSI coding, and estimate hygiene. -Coordinate with structured cabling and security estimators to align power, pathways, spaces, and device backboxes; prevent overlaps/holes at interfaces (e.g., PoE vs. line-voltage, telecom room power and HVAC, fire alarm power).
