The Role

Overview

Supervises waste collection staff, ensures safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Tasks

-Investigate accidents and maintain compliance with safety standards -Manage asset maintenance and regulatory compliance -Monitor and improve key metrics (fuel usage, turnaround times, missed pickups) -Handle service issues and conduct incident investigations -Support development of profit plans including revenue growth, cost control, and productivity standards -Maintain fair treatment, safety gear, and staffing coverage -Design and audit routes to maximize productivity and cost-effectiveness -Coordinate with vendors and municipal clients -Partner with HR and Operations Manager on staffing needs, including hiring and performance management -Ensure location meets profit margin targets -Conduct employee reviews, track performance issues, and ensure proper documentation -Oversee daily collection and disposal services for efficiency and customer satisfaction -Supervise drivers, heavy equipment operators, and support staff, ensuring training, discipline, and compliance with procedures -Promote a proactive safety culture through training, meetings, and observations -Ensure DOT and regulatory compliance

What You Bring

-Must be able to meet relevant criteria for safety sensitive functions according to Company standards. -Excellent leadership, communication and management skills. -Work in outdoor environment 70% of the time -Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, instruction and procedure manuals, routing reports and correspondence -Ability to regularly lift/move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds -3 years supervisory experience. -Intermediate database, spreadsheet and word processing skills within Microsoft or Google Suites -Experience working or supervising (preferred) in a unionized environment. -Experience in waste industry desired. -Ability to plan, prioritize and execute against tight timelines -Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, climb, balance, taste and smell -Visual Requirements: include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus -Must hold a valid commercial driver’s license (Class 3 / 1). -Experience operating an excavator, loader and other equipment required.
