The Role

Overview

Design and analyze structural systems for diverse projects, including seismic design.

Tasks

-Supporting Construction Administration activities, including submittal review, RFI coordination, and drawing development. -Duties require in-person attendance, Monday through Friday, during our business hours of 8 AM to 5 PM at our office in Downtown Los Angeles for the training period. -Coordinating with project managers, architects, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery. -Providing technical guidance and oversight to junior engineers to ensure conformance with project design requirements. -Designing new concrete, steel, and masonry structures in accordance with ASCE 7 and the California Building Code (CBC), and developing retrofit schemes for existing buildings in accordance with ASCE 41 and the California Existing Building Code (CEBC). -Designing main building systems—including columns, beams, footings, diaphragms—and secondary systems such as anchorage, bracing, partitions, and retaining walls. -Supervising design engineers in construction administration tasks and ensuring quality control of construction documents. -Designing gravity, lateral, and foundation systems (shallow and deep foundations) for new buildings and retrofit projects in high seismic hazard zones. -Producing comprehensive calculation packages, structural drawings, and details for permit and construction. -May occasionally need to lift items up to 15 lbs. -Performing structural analysis and seismic design using finite element analysis (FEA) software such as ETABS, RISA, SAFE, and RAM Steel. -Collaborating with the BIM department to maintain organizational standards for drawing production. -Analyzing and designing structural members in concrete, steel, and masonry using hand calculations and software (Enercalc, spCol) in compliance with ACI 318, AISC 360, and TMS 402/602 standards.

What You Bring

-Four years of full-time work experience as an engineer in a structural consulting organization. -Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structures. -Solid understanding of seismic design principles and experience working in high seismic hazard zones. -Professional Engineer (PE) license in California. -Ability to design multiple structural materials (concrete, steel, CMU, wood). -Mechanics of Materials -BS in Civil Engineering (with an emphasis in Structures) -Transcripts showing completed graduate level courses in: -Highly qualified candidates have full-time work experience as an engineer in a structural consulting organization. -Strong coordination and communication skills for cross-team collaboration. -Duties require the ability to actively engage with a computer for several hours per day. -Proficiency in FEA and structural design software, including ETABS, RISA, SAFE, RAM Steel, Enercalc, and spCol. -EIT required -One year of full-time work experience as an engineer in a structural consulting organization. -Experience developing retrofit schemes for existing structures. -Skilled in preparing technical documents, structural drawings, and calculation packages. -Strong organizational and time-management abilities to balance multiple projects. -Experience with HCAI/OSHPD projects and/or DSA projects. -At least a 3.0 cumulative GPA in Undergraduate coursework -Ability to supervise and mentor design engineers, and provide quality control oversight. -At least a 3.0 cumulative GPA in Graduate coursework -Transcripts showing completed courses in: -Experience designing healthcare, laboratory, or other highly regulated facilities. -Two years of experience training and supervising junior engineers. -Strong knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including ACI 318, AISC 360, TMS 402/602, ASCE 7, ASCE 41, CBC, and CEBC.
