The Role

Overview

Assist with archaeological fieldwork, documentation, and analysis for cultural resources projects.

Tasks

-Drawing measured maps using a GPS unit and photographing archaeological contexts -Processing archaeological specimens and samples -Conducting basic in-field artifact analysis and description -Maintaining provenience control for excavated contexts and cultural materials -Analyzing a variety of artifacts, including pottery, stone tools, and stone debitage -May include occasional driving as part of project responsibilities -Writing narrative notes and completing paperwork -Excavating and/or documenting architectural and non-architectural contexts -Maintaining provenience control for cultural materials and records

What You Bring

-Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Google Earth -Applicants for this intern role must possess a clean driving record. -Must be at least 21 years old -The candidate should have a strong ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. -Minimum GPA of 3.0 -Excellent data collection, technical writing and communication skills -Juniors, seniors, masters, and PhD students pursuing Bachelor or Associate Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Classics or related field -Experience with engineering software applications (AutoCad, MathCad, ESRI, HydroCad, WaterCad, ARCView GIS, etc.) is preferred but not required -Comfort in the outdoors and ability to maintain a positive attitude during year-round field work in a variety of weather conditions -Collaborative, organized, self-motivated, detail orientated person
