Tasks

-Design of substations across full project life cycle, from feasibility studies to detailed construction designs. -Visit substations to establish the existing site layout, produce as-built drawings, assess project requirements, and then produce detailed design drawings for all aspects from 11kV switch rooms up to 132kV compound layouts -The design of electrical distribution substations from 11kV up to 132kV -Undertake the role of ‘Designer’ under the CDM regulations and production of a designer’s risk assessment for each project

We’re on the hunt for a passionate Substation Design Engineer to join our Major Projects team at Northern Powergrid. -At least an HNC level qualification within a relevant subject or equivalent experience -A full and valid driving licence is essential -Knowledge of EHV power systems, safety procedures and engineering requirements -Knowledge of civil engineering aspects of substation construction -The necessary background experience and technical knowledge to attain Competent Person status as defined in the Company’s Distribution Safety Rules to facilitate personal access to the Company’s operational sites -Ability to manage and prioritise work to ensure project timescales are met -Proficient with CAD drawing software Bentley MicroStation or AutoCAD -Knowledge of Standards associated with EHV substation design up to 132kV -Knowledge of engineering standards associated with EHV substation plant -Engineering knowledge of substation design and construction
