Tasks

The Director will provide vision, leadership, and technical expertise to develop and implement safety programs, policies, and initiatives that promote compliance, engagement, and continuous improvement. This role is both strategic and hands-on balancing high-level program development with regular field engagement to ensure a consistent and proactive safety culture across all business units and project sites. The Director of Safety is responsible for leading the Norlee Group Safety Department and driving a culture where safety is a core organizational value. This executive-level role influences behavior across all levels of the company, embedding safety into every operational decision and ensuring alignment with Norlee’s strategic and cultural goals. -Oversee all company-wide safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and federal regulations. -Conduct “red flag” or targeted training sessions in response to incidents or identified risks. -Establish systems for leading indicator tracking, incident analysis, and continuous performance improvement. -Collaborate with training and safety teams to deliver a mix of in-person and digital learning solutions. -Benchmark Norlee’s programs against industry best practices through participation in trade associations and peer networks. -Track and report key safety metrics including LTIFR, TRIR, EMR, prevention costs, and training completion rates. -Lead and coordinate responses to safety audits, inspections, and regulatory inquiries, ensuring transparency and timely corrective actions. -Promote Norlee’s Safety Vision and Mission, ensuring safety remains a shared value across all Norlee companies. -Provide strategic guidance to senior leadership on safety initiatives, risk mitigation, and regulatory trends impacting the business. -Oversee workers’ compensation cases, reporting, and post-incident follow-up with corrective and preventive measures. -Develop and execute targeted safety improvement programs for underperforming business units to enhance key safety metrics. -Direct the investigation of significant incidents, conducting root-cause analysis and developing preventative action plans.

What You Bring

This role requires periodic air and ground travel throughout the U.S. to visit Norlee offices and active project sites. During site visits, the Director must be able to walk on uneven terrain, navigate active construction environments, and observe field operations safely and effectively. Travel frequency varies by business needs, emphasizing a strong, visible field presence across all Norlee companies. -Must hold or be eligible for OSHA 500, Lockout/Tagout, and Arc Flash certifications. -In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and industry-specific safety management and compliance tools. -Drive measurable improvement in Norlee’s Experience Modification Rate (EMR), targeting a reduction of 1–5 points within 24 months. -Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to interpret safety data and identify trends. -Certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), OHST (Occupational Health and Safety Technician), or equivalent are strongly preferred. -Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex safety and operational concepts for all audiences. -Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline required. -20+ years of progressive experience developing, implementing, and managing safety programs; 10+ years within the electrical or mechanical contracting industry strongly preferred. -Proven leadership experience managing multi-site safety programs and teams.
