Overview

Design and draft building mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire) from concept to construction.

Tasks

-Follow production guidelines and project standards in the department drafting standards manual. -Assist in the design of building related mechanical systems including HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems using applicable codes, standards, and reference materials. -Assist with periodic field reviews of construction and construction administration tasks (conduct shop drawing reviews, respond to RFIs, prepare documentation for site instructions or change requests). -Ensure the assurance of quality, consistency, and integrity of the electronic handover of deliverables. -Work closely with the Mechanical Engineer and engineering group in recommending the best use of project tools to achieve project objectives, troubleshoot and resolve issues with the project tools. -Produce aspects of mechanical design and drawings in REVIT, as well as in AutoCAD. -Performs thorough quality control of construction documents. -Work as a contributing team member within a multi-discipline team. -Prepare contract drawings, schematics, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction. -Perform field surveys for drawing development, site reviews and as-built drawings. -Review equipment selections, perform preliminary engineering calculations, and develop preliminary designs. -Communicate with other team members and become familiar with Stantec standards to complete assignments and projects in a timely manner as required.

What You Bring

-Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite. -Understand and execute and/or direct work within Stantec's quality control guidelines. -Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation. -Ability to work with others on large complex projects. -Ability to work independently with engineering supervision on small projects. -Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions. -Knowledge or familiarity with LEED standards, ASHRAE, ASPE and NFPA would be considered an asset. -Good understanding of building mechanical system concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others. -Good time management skills and able to work in a fast-paced work environment. Able to work under and meet tight deadlines. -A degree in Mechanical Engineering and a license, or plan to become licensed to practice in the Yukon, NWT, and Nunavut. -Strong desire to learn and work in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment. -Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate effectively with colleagues and staff; a “team player” approach. -A.Sc.T. Technical/Technologist Designation considered an asset. -Self-motivated and self-starter with a strong work ethic. -Knowledge or familiarity with National Building Code, National Plumbing Code, National Fire Codes, National Energy Code, and local amendments/supplements to these documents. -Comply with Stantec's HSSE program, with a focus on safety in the field.
