Tasks

-Coordinate closely with NYC agencies on project designs, wetland impacts, ecological enhancements, shoreline treatments, and mitigation requirements. -Develop wetland restoration and habitat enhancement concepts, planting plans, and monitoring requirements for City infrastructure and resiliency projects. -Prepare coastal zone consistency documentation, site plan reviews, and Waterfront Revitalization Program (WRP) submissions for City and State approvals. -Lead wetlands delineations, impact assessments, functional evaluations, and mitigation/restoration planning for capital and infrastructure projects. -Support NYC DDC, NYCDEP, NYC Parks, and other City agencies by developing CEQR-compliant documentation, EAS/EIS chapters, and project-specific environmental technical memoranda. -Prepare and manage federal, state, and local wetland and waterway permit applications, including USACE Section 404/10, NYSDEC Article 15/24, 401 WQC, Tidal/Coastal permitting, and NYC agency requirements. -Engage with regulatory agencies (USACE, NYSDEC, NYCDEP, NYC Parks, USCG) to facilitate reviews, respond to comments, and support project approvals.

What You Bring

-Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects. -Familiarity with local, state, and federal permitting agencies. -Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. -Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field. -Excellent technical writing, stakeholder coordination, and interdisciplinary communication skills. -5 to 7 years of experience working as an environmental scientist and completing environmental surveys, fieldwork, habitat and impact assessments, and/or construction monitoring. -Demonstrated experience contributing to technical reports, preparing environmental impact evaluations, siting reports, and environmental permit applications, including field surveys and reporting, and resource and impact evaluations. -Strong knowledge of federal, NYSDEC, and NYC wetland/coastal permitting processes and regulatory frameworks. -Proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools. -Demonstrated experience conducting NEPA / CEQA / other analysis and preparation of associated documentation. -Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. -Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience. -Possess demonstrated skills with specific ecosystem, habitat, and/or applicable species experience required. -Familiarity with NYC capital project workflows (DDC, DEP, Parks), including design milestones, environmental reviews, and agency coordination. -Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC. -Experience with wetland delineations, ecological assessment methods, mitigation/restoration planning, and shoreline/coastal site design. -Working knowledge and experience with State and Federal protection regulations, guidelines, and consulting processes pertaining to the specific environmental science position. -Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. -Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work. -Prior experience with GIS software and Trimble GPS units and ability to use technology for data collection.
