The Role

Overview

Lead crew to maintain and operate water distribution pipelines and related infrastructure.

Tasks

-Consistently uses miscellaneous equipment including but not limited to pry bars, shovels, picks, hand tools, and valve keys. -Occasionally inspects meters, valves, hydrants, and pipes to detect defects such as leaks or malfunctioning meters. -Frequently backfills, tamps, and installs temporary paving using assorted hand tools. -Frequently performs cutting, threading, brazing, soldering, and connecting or adjoining pipe and fittings as required. -Frequently ensures job site is secure prior to leaving. -Occasionally communicates with customer. -Occasionally records meter readings. -Occasionally investigates customer complaints. -Consistently breaks up pavement using pavement breakers, pry bars, shovels, picks and other hand tools to dig excavations preparatory to removing and or repairing pipe. -Consistently follows established safety guidelines and procedures. -Occasionally installs taps as required. -Consistently locates appropriate valves at customer's home or establishment and turns valves to permit flow or discontinuance of water using various hand tools. -Consistently tightens pipe connections to prevent leaks using wrenches and various hand tools. -Frequently completes company reports related to work of Utility Person and service person. -Consistently performs work assigned by supervisor, collects, compiles and records word data. -Regular schedule may include evening shifts (5pm-1am) -Occasionally installs or removes shoring systems as required. -Frequently disconnects and connects water meter to outlet and inlet couplings using assorted hand tools. -Frequently determines appropriate materials pipe sections, valves, and fittings needed to perform assigned work. -Frequently directs a crew or assigns field work to Utility Person and service person. -Occasionally drives company vehicles as required

Requirements

What You Bring

-Must obtain/maintain D.O.T certification -High school diploma or general education degree (GED) -A minimum of 3 years experience working under the direct supervision of foreman -A valid driver's license is required -The noise level in the work environment is loud requiring hearing protection.
