Overview

Operate pipe backhoe safely for water, sewer and storm pipe installation.

Tasks

-Loading, delivery, and dumping of materials in a safe and timely manner -Maneuver loader and other heavy equipment safely on public or private roadways -Maintain cleanliness and good condition of trucks -Perform minor maintenance to include cleaning, lubricating and refilling equipment -Regularly push/pull objects -Work closely with ground crew to achieve project objectives -Transport aggregate or other materials in a safe and precise manner -Check fluid levels, maintain tires pressures and change implements or attachments -Climb intermittently -Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. -Assist pipe layer in the installation of water main and sewers -Perform daily inspections and safety checks on equipment; reports defects and repairs -Move lever to raise and tilt bucket when filled, or to dump material -Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach and grasp with hands and arms. -Regularly twist, bend, stoop, kneel and crouch to perform duties

What You Bring

-Intermittent walking and standing on a construction site. -Knowledge and understanding of loading, unloading, and transport procedures for equipment; as well as compaction requirements for ground conditions, or customer needs. -Good vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus -Able to listen, follow directions, and have a willingness to continue to enhance skills -Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public -Knowledge in support equipment operation, digging equipment, vacuum units, reel trailers, backhoes, plows, and trenches. -Agility, balance, and manual dexterity, as well as arm-hand steadiness -General knowledge of road construction processes. -Safe driving abilities and strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures -Knowledge of heavy equipment used in piping operations, their capacities and physical limitations, and issues involved in ground disturbance -Excellent hand, eye and foot coordination. -3 recent years’ experience working as a Backhoe Operator. -High School diploma or general education degree (GED) -Knowledge and understanding of "safety systems" associated with equipment operation including set-up and emergency procedures. -Regularly reach above shoulder level -Must have experience in laying water, sewer and storm pipe -Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary -Must be physically able to repetitively lift, push, pull and/or carry at least 25 pounds occasionally, and sometimes heavier weight. -Able to hear and respond to oral instructions in a noisy environment. -Effective communications with jobsite supervisor and co-workers -Active Driver’s license required with no DUIs or serious traffic violations. CDL Class "A" driver's license. -Constant physical effort, including extended sitting for at least 8 hour shift -Must have reliable transportation, and ability to travel to assigned worksites
