The Role
Overview
Design substation protection/control and physical layouts for a Southern California utility.

Tasks
-Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager, client, and others as needed. -Assist with engineering calculations such AC and DC load calculations required to properly size auxiliary systems. -Perform careful self-checking activities to ensure the quality of work before it is presented to senior design reviewers. -Assist with engineering calculations such as conduit and bus sizing, lighting & lightning analysis, and grounding grid analysis. -Prepare computer assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature with neatness and a minimum of errors. -Attend job site meetings to gather scope of work. -Ensure all designs conform to our client’s and industry standards. -May provide field support during construction. -Assist with the development of substation P&C and/or physical design, including the preparation of field notes, drawings, specifications, and estimates. -Utilize client and/or company information system to track and update design activities.

What You Bring
-Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET approved college or university. -Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification in electrical engineering preferred but not required. -Experience with substation design and construction standards for electric utilities in California is highly desirable. -The ability to move freely for up to 8 hours per day. -The ability to sit/ stand for up to 8 hours per day. -Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook). -Basic analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. -1 - 3 years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm. -Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation. -Basic written and verbal communication skills.
