Tasks

The Electrical Engineer is accountable for developing and designing battery management system electronics and controls for newly built energy storage systems, as well as maintaining existing designs and support the creation of automated test equipment for the product components. -Design to meet safety certification standards, such as UL -Provides technical guidance to engineering teams, production staff, and service personnel -Generation of reports on design rationale, test methodologies, and results to support engineering reviews and product documentation -Provide technical support for manufacturing teams and field operations on released products -Perform verification testing of electronics component and overall product designs -Maintain project documentation and assist in creating Operation Manuals

What You Bring

-Familiarity with design for EMC and availability to trace down EMI issues -Minimum of 2 years experience required -Embedded programming, communication interfaces; I²C, RS-485, CAN bus communication, Modbus TCP, remote IO, or flex IO systems (Moxa, Allen Bradley, SEL, Advantech), PLC programming experience, GDB or other debugging tools. -Circuit board layout with high-impedance analog signals and creepage/clearances for high voltage -Minimum two years’ experience designing electronics and developing automated controls -Linux, embedded systems -Strong cross-discipline system skills -Ability to diagnose issues and implement design improvements for enhanced reliability and performance -Factory - The worker may be subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, vibration, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to temperature changes or exposure to chemicals. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, odors, dust, mists, and gases. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and lab coats. May be required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. -Understanding of hardware and physical system being controlled is required -A team-player attitude and strong written/verbal communication skills are a must -Bachelor's degree in Electric Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology required -Ability to self-direct to a goal and achieve independent success -Engineering Design Software: EAGLE, IAR or similar software -Competent skills with communications protocols such as TCP/IP, CAN, i²C and SPI; use of Modbus -Awareness of safety certification process to standards such as UL -Basic knowledge of hazard and safety protocols of high voltage equipment and other aspects of working with large-scale battery systems -Hardware and design, debug, and testing. PCB design. -Working knowledge of embedded control systems and their applications -Solid software development skills with C, C++ and optionally the Linux operating system -Basic design and implementation of low-level circuit design with electrical isolation, microcontroller controls and analog front-end -Overnight/North America Travel: Less than 10% -Ability to work in lab environment and understand how components fit into a larger system -Knowledge of designing and validating electrical circuit boards, including hands-on testing and performance evaluation. -Capability to select and integrate off-the-shelf component and equipment -Office Environment - Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. May be required to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
