Spool Fabrication Coordinator

Paulson-Cheek Mechanical, Inc.

The Role

Overview

Creates detailed spool drawings and fabrication docs for mechanical piping systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • revit modeling
  • spool drawings
  • material takeoffs
  • weld coordination
  • qa/qc standards
  • prefab packages

Tasks

Implement model updates based on RFIs, design revisions, field changes, and as-built conditions. Produce accurate piping spool drawings, including isometrics, weld maps, cut lists, and bills of material. Generate detailed material takeoffs for pipe, fittings, valves, supports, and specialty items. Verify dimensional accuracy and ensure spool buildability to minimize field rework. Apply deep technical understanding of Revit and Navisworks to develop, validate, and maintain piping models. Coordinate with welders, fitters, and shop supervisors to resolve fabrication issues or design deviations. Maintain accuracy of project documentation and tracking throughout prefab stages. Validate weld sequences, fitting orientation, tolerances, and specialty component requirements. Review weld numbering, material specifications, and dimensional data for accuracy. Support resolution of design conflicts and field coordination issues. Interpret P&IDs, layouts, and 3D models to generate complete prefabrication packages. Ensure all spools meet applicable ASME, ASTM, and internal QA/QC standards. The Spool Fabrication Coordinator develops precise spool drawings and fabrication documentation for mechanical piping systems. This role translates engineered designs into fabrication-ready spools, ensuring dimensional accuracy, material compliance, and efficient shop production. The spooler interfaces closely with engineering, BIM teams, and fabrication personnel to support high-quality prefabrication and reliable field installation. Break down piping systems into efficient, fabrication-ready spools.
