Traffic Project Engineer

Overview

Design traffic signals and manage traffic projects ensuring TxDOT compliance.

Tasks

-Prepare Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) design plans -Supervise and mentor junior engineers -Prepare quantities and develop PS&E packages supporting highway design projects -Prepare streetlight design plan and perform photometric analysis using Agi32 -Prepare technical reports for IJR/IMR, and traffic/safety/road diet studies -Attend project meetings with clients -Assist in preparing conceptual intersection layouts, schematics, signal timings and engineering reports -Prepare traffic signal design plans for new intersections and signal modifications to facilitate multimodal accommodations -Prepare temporary traffic control plan/traffic management plan (TMP) and signing, pavement marking plans

What You Bring

-Local state DOT experience is preferred -Self-starter and capable of completing tasks with minimal oversight -Valid driver’s license -Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines -Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written -Proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD (OpenRoads preferred) -Familiarity with TxDOT and/or general DOT traffic design standards, MUTCD and AASHTO -5-10 years of traffic engineering experience -EIT is required, PE is preferred -BS in Civil Engineering -Proficiency in traffic analyses software such as VISSIM, Synchro/Simtraffic, Sidra Intersection, HCS -A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
