General Maintenance Worker

Overview

Perform general maintenance, repairs, and preventive upkeep on base facilities.

Tasks

-from catalogs and suppliers, or obtain them from storerooms -replace broken hardware in a barracks room, working on signage, replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets -Including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) -ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate -Order parts, supplies, and equipment -Lifting and adjusting heavy objects, contact with sharp, hot and/or very cold supplies and equipment -PRACTICES WORKPLACE SAFETY in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies -Repair or replace defective equipment parts and reassemble equipment -Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices -Perform general cleaning of buildings or properties -Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments -Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment -Perform routine preventive maintenance -Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work -Establish priorities to ensure completion of tasks in a timely manner -Use hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, or straightedges

Requirements

• 4+ years

What You Bring

-4+ years related experience and/or formal vocational/technical training in a variety of building and/or utility trades -Valid driver's license compliant with REAL ID Act or are you willing and able to obtain one -Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces -Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check -U. S. citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations -Regular, dependable attendance -Knowledge of building architectural/structural elements -Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry in COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL settings -Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking -Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted -Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions -Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping -High school diploma or equivalent -Adaptable and flexible in work situations
