Tasks

The Asphalt Area Manager will provide overall direction and leadership to the existing Hot-Mix Asphalt line of business in Eastern KY. They will be responsible for making key decisions and recommendations related to safety, profitability, plant operations, production efficiencies, capital projects, plant quality control, internal and external sales, inventory and adherence to environmental and local rules and regulations, and resource management and people development. -Ensure that all crews have the tools and training to always operate safely and that all federal, state, and local laws concerning safety, environment, and other applicable areas (i.e., OSHA, MSHA) are strictly enforced. -Interface with vendors for raw material deliveries, equipment, and plant maintenance. -Respond to employee and customer related issues and project delivery challenges. -Manage vision and purpose. -Create and manage capital improvement plans, strategic planning, and forecasts. -Conduct staff meetings with personnel and participate in management staff meetings. -Responsible for understanding future demand forecasting. -Be engaged in the growth of community and customer relationships. Both individually and with internal staff. -Establish and monitor key performance goals and targets to achieve budget, company initiatives, and enhance the company’s financial returns. -Oversight, support, and management of Hot Mix Asphalt Plant operations, maintenance, and supporting transportation. -Manage personnel in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable employment laws. This includes training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding employees, disciplining employees, long term personnel development and succession planning, and addressing complaints and resolving problems. -Generate and manage the operating budget for the fiscal year under the direction of management. -Coordinate with construction managers and facilities to establish production schedules and efficient use of personnel to meet customer demands and optimize production capabilities. -Promote a safe working culture for all employees; work with safety and field personnel to minimize risk and always increase safety for employees. -Interface with Management, Plant Managers, Plant Operators, and Maintenance personnel for major repairs or replacements.

What You Bring

-Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and facilitate cross functional teams. -Experience in strategic planning and execution preferred. -A minimum of 5 years’ supervisory experience. -Capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities -Demonstrated success in coaching and developing others; shared his/her knowledge. -Experience in creating, working within and/or administering an assigned budget. -Demonstrated leadership skills and record of accomplishment. Success in leading & driving changes in organizations and increasing profitability. -A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in the operation of Hot-Mix Asphalt facilities, construction, or other directly related industry experience preferred. -Advanced Microsoft Office skills -Strong interpersonal and team building skills include the ability to interact comfortably and respectfully with all levels of plant and corporate personnel. -Excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. -Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and listening – at all levels in the organization. -Strong organizational skills – can bring order and clarity to ambiguous, fast-paced environment. -Demonstrated success in managing employees and/or leading a crew. -Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills. -Work well in a team and build relationships. Hands-on, collaborative approach -Strong analytical, fact-based approach to support sound decision-making. Strategic minded with strong finance experience and skills. -High degree of drive, initiative, and motivation. Action oriented and results oriented. -Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, or related field; OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. -Ability to see the big picture while focusing on the process and procedures necessary to produce deliverables. -Entrepreneurial mind-set and can think like a business owner. -Basic knowledge of asphalt plant mechanics -Customer focused with attention to detail and capable of delivering accurate, quality results in a timely, consistent, and professional manner. -Demonstrated business acumen in plant operations and Quality Control as it relates to sales, finance, or IT. -Strong work ethic, willing to put in the time and energy required to drive performance.
