Tasks
Senior Estimator manages and assists in the compilation of estimates for various projects and is responsible for cost accuracy. A Senior Estimator gives appropriate responses to the Owners requirements and maintains a high level of professionalism in estimating. A Senior Estimator reports to the SBU Executive; alternatively, the Senior Estimator may report to the Chief Estimator at the SBU Executives direction. -Is responsible for the preparation of bid proposal for submittal. -Attends Owner meetings during estimate development. -Champions “The Layton Way” by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers. -Prepares detailed schedules for proposed projects. -Ensures that “Constructing with Integrity” is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work. -Communicates with subs and suppliers to clarify pricing information. Determines the suitability and competitive stance of subs and suppliers. -Solicits bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers. Creates listings of appropriate contacts for specific projects. -Initiates various special projects related to estimating. -Prepares estimates and supplementary information for potential projects. -Performs quantity take-offs, organizes, prices, and analyzes information. -Assists and guides staff towards completion of special projects. -Reads, understands, and offers improvements to the contract documents (plans, specifications & addenda). Offers Value-Engineering and Life-Cycle cost options for review. -Prepares and analyzes estimate formats in such areas as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs and bid analysis. -Initiates schematic plans or sketches to illustrate approach and strategy.

What You Bring
Senior Estimator -Understands and utilizes proven estimating and bidding strategies. -Good working knowledge of self-performed concrete construction. -Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction related field or equivalent education and experience. -Presents well in interviews and in all meetings with clients. -Has the ability to utilize the latest estimating software used by Layton. -Works well with Architects and Owners and provides leadership in the preconstruction process and demonstrates best practices throughout preconstruction. -Working knowledge of Revit and Primavera systems. -Proven working knowledge of Destini Estimator software, BlueBeam, Assemble, and other latest software and technology. -Possesses sufficient knowledge of all construction systems and disciplines, including mechanical and electrical, in order to complete comprehensive cost estimates without assistance from others. -Understands the difference between the narrow focus of just cost estimating services and the broader scope of preconstruction services. -Effective written, verbal and presentation skills. -Has experience in estimating at all stages of design: conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction documents. -Excellent knowledge of construction practices, methods, trends and crew data. -Over five years’ experience in estimating commercial construction projects, demonstrating competence in hard-bid, design-build, and conceptual estimating. -Ability to operate office equipment, computer, printer, phone, copier, fax, etc. -Fully understands and practices the principles of Target Value Design. -Ability to work under pressure, meets tight deadlines, and coordinate team members.
