The Role

Overview

Operate and maintain high‑pressure steam boilers, ensuring efficiency, safety, and routine upkeep.

Tasks

-Maintains maximum boiler efficiency by adjusting, reading, and interpreting gauges, indicators, and steam flow meters. -Maintains oil heaters, pumps, oil storage facilities, and oil unloading equipment. -Observes boiler plant operations through use of electronic or pneumatic controls, pressure gauges, and safety devices. -Supervises or performs the chemical testing and treatment of boiler feed water. -Maintains various records and reports relative to steam plant operations. -Exercises supervision over employees allocated to the class of Boiler Operator. -Makes regular checks of plant equipment and makes adjustments, repairs, and services equipment as required. -Operates and adjusts high pressure gas, oil, and coal fired boilers in the steam generating plant. -Operates steam plant as situation warrants on natural gas, oil, or coal.

-Ability to supervise the work of others. -Ability to understand and follow complex oral or written instructions on proper plant operation. -Thorough knowledge of the proper operation and maintenance of high pressure steam generation plant equipment. -Ability to operate and regulate boiler plant equipment and to make adjustments as required for plant output. -Thorough knowledge of steam plant safety standards and procedures. -Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams, written orders, control gauges, manufacturer's operating instructions books, and to record boiler plant information. -Skill in repairing and maintaining various types of steam plant equipment.
