Tasks

-Specify and select fire, gas, smoke, heat etc… detection systems and integrate them into the facility control system. -Participates in HAZOP and various other process safety assessment, evaluation, and design sessions. -Develops instrument location plans and cable routing layouts -Designs facility / minewide industrial networks: fibreoptic backbones and drops; ;leaky feeder radio; hoist signaling and WiFi / LTE coverage. Selecting network hardware including ruggedized equipment and appropriately rated equipment for the hazardous area -Participates in client project requirement meetings, PHAs, value analysis sessions, and basic cost estimating. -Engages in the development of design through verbal, written, and visual methods including sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and redlines. -Supports or leads project coordination meetings with internal multidiscipline team members and/or external consultants, owner reps, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors. -Multidiscipline vendor equipment package reviews and vendor documentation reviews for purchased instrumentation and control equipment.You will be responsible for the review and analysis of drawings for possible safety and constructability problems prior to issuance to clients. -Design within the hazardous area classification standards (NEC, IECEx, ATEX, ISA) for gases and dusts and confined space hazards. -Leading or member of technical team developing instrumentation and controls deliverables including but not limited to: instrument datasheets; instrument index; instrumentation calculations; installation details. -Leads and / or works on multiple projects when required. -Design for the integration of multiple utility auxilliary systems and their communicaton networks: CCTV and security systems including explosionproof IP camera selection and layouts; fire and gas detection and alarm system -Develop controls designs and deliverables including shutdown keys; control narratives; control system architecture and network details; control system integration plans; control system panel designs; I/O , wiring schematics and various other logic and safety deliverables. -Assists other project leads with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule. -Specifies, designs, selects control and auxilliary systems and multiple networks in a mine environment. -Evaluates, selects, specifies, and designs all instrumentation specified systems or products for a project. -Safety is a core value for Stantec. Your personal commitment to safety will help us achieve our goal of zero harm within our operation and for our clients. -Completes cable schedules and selects cables according to service including LSZH, chemical and fire resistance. -This position is intended to be client facing and includes attending client meetings, which may at times be remote, as well as corresponding directly with the client. -Leads and supports the design of control / server rooms including consideration of many aspects including: console layouts, engineering–operations network segregation, server racks with minehardened enclosures, UPS/redundant power, patch panels/fiber terminations, dustprotected HVAC, and physical security. -Participates in 3D model and constructability reviews.

What You Bring

-Demonstrated leadership skills and project engineering experience. -Willingness to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices (~10% travel). -Selfstarter, with the ability to handle change and work with minimal supervision. You must be a contemplative person who is willing to challenge your own work as well as the work of those around you. -Previous experience as a Lead Engineer on detailed engineering/construction projects with a consulting firm or owners team. -10 + years of experience in engineering, design, and construction in the sectors covered by “heavy industry” including Oil & Gas, Thermal and HydroPower Generation, Mining, etc… Particular experience in the Power sector will be beneficial, -Parttime office presence is a requirement. -Ability to take the lead on a project team and mentor junior staff members. -PE Licensed in the state of Texas or Arizona, or the ability/commitment to acquire one. Instrumentation & Controls PE License in other jurisdictions are beneficial as well. -P&ID development input and support. -Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere. -Bachelor’s Degree or Technical Diploma in a related engineering field (Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Electronics) -Experience in underground mine design will be a strong assett.
