The Role

Overview

Manages contract administration for highway/bridge projects, liaising with stakeholders.

Tasks

-Work with Project Management staff to develop project policies and procedures related to quality, safety, the environment, and professional ethics. -Performance Management: Respond to personal objectives and use performance management systems to improve personal performance; or monitor the performance of the team, allocate work and review completion, take appropriate corrective action to ensure timeliness and quality, and contribute to formal individual performance management and appraisal. -Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace; instruct the team in safe working methods; identify instances of risky behaviors within the team and take appropriate action, escalating serious issues as appropriate. -Organizational Capability Building: Provide coaching to team members to develop their skills. -Work Scheduling and Allocation: Assign short-term work schedules to a team of subordinates in order to achieve expectations while following established timelines. -Liaise with Clients for future Construction work. -Work with the Construction Administration Project Management staff in the overall management of staff and departmental initiatives. -Leadership and Direction: Communicate the local action plan; explain how this relates to the function's strategy and action plan and to the broader organization's mission and vision; motivate people to achieve local business goals. -Liaise with the Project Managers, designers, field inspectors, contractors and clients on a daily basis. -Responsible for Contract Administration of civil provincial and municipal infrastructure projects -Operational Compliance: Identify, within the team, instances of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures and/or relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, reporting these instances and escalating issues as appropriate. -External Communications: Help others get the most out of external communications systems by offering support and advice. -Conduct Constructability Reviews as required on Highway and Bridge projects. -Construction Management: Supervise others on a construction project, working within established operational systems. -Supervise and direct field staff -Quality Assurance: Plan and coordinate testing and inspection of products and processes. Implement corrective actions or continuous improvement initiatives and monitor them to make sure they are effective.

What You Bring

-Minimum 10 years’ experience in Civil Engineering Infrastructure, with a substantial focus on Highway and Bridge construction. -Excellent organizational and prioritization skills are a must. -Ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, associates, and clients. -Good initiative and attention to detail. -Proficient with MS Word and Excel. -Minimum 2 projects’ experience as a Contract Administrator on MTO, Regional or Municipal contracts with construction value greater than $10-million. -OACETT ‘rcca’ designation, or Professional Engineers Ontario designation as a P.Eng. -Strong communication skills, both oral and written. -Experience with progress payments, change orders, leading site meetings, preparation of minutes, and providing guidance to field staff in relation to contracts. -Proven aptitude for estimating construction schedule, quantities and costs. -Ability to effectively multi-task and work in fast paced, high change environment. -Strong skills in conflict resolution.
