The Role

Overview

Design and develop engine components for off‑highway, heavy‑duty and marine applications.

Tasks

-Ensures design files and documentation are kept up to date, and stored in accordance with department procedures. -Creation of 2D drawings to allow manufacture or purchase. -The mechanical design of components through concept, definitive and detail design phases. -If required, generates minutes from design reviews. -Responsible for the following engineering activities: -Carries out detailed mechanical design work including 3D modelling, basic stress calculations, FMEA’s, 2D layouts, 2D detailing, Tolerance stacks as required. Agreeing the design approach with the project Chief or Lead Designer. -Liaise directly with the customer as required. -Carry out design change requests as per process and in a timely manner. -Responsible for preparing and presenting mechanical designs at design reviews. -Creation of assembly drawings and bill of materials. -Responsible for reporting progress of all assigned tasks to the project management teams, chief designer or engineering manager. -Creation of technical reports and documentation as required for engineering projects. -Work closely with manufacturing and process engineers to ensure products are designed for manufacture & assembly. -Liaise with suppliers and other Ricardo departments to ensure the required information is available when needed and customer requests are dealt with in a timely manner -Keeps up to date with and dissemination of: -Meeting design timing plans on assigned tasks. -Creation of component or system design plans. -Highlights all mechanical technical risks to the chief designer or engineering manager.

What You Bring

-PLM experience, PTC Windchill referred. -latest manufacturing techniques and drawing standards. -Ability to work to tight deadlines. -Layout drawings are up to date. -Ability to work with minimum supervision. -Degree (Bachelor or Masters) in mechanical engineering or similar field or with equivalent experience. -Experienced user of CREO. -Good communication skills, dealing with other employees, external clients & suppliers. -Experience as a Design Engineer. -Broad range of mechanical design knowledge with experience in Engine design, preferred experience with any of castings, housings, air paths, cranktrain, cylinder head, cylinder block, fuel systems, etc. -Effective problem solving capabilities. -Fit and function of their responsible parts or system and their interaction with other systems. -Confident proactive character, ability to take the lead in challenging situations. -Able to communicate effectively in English at all levels. -latest developments in design tools. -Familiarity of technical specifications. -Ability to understand and produce technical drawings to high standard with GD&T competency. -Preferred experience in any of off-highway, heavy duty diesel, industrial, medium speed, marine or large engine areas. -Able to produce designs to specified deadlines and achieves required timescales.
