Tasks

The Front-End Engineering Design Specialist - Switchgear is responsible for developing detailed front-end design packages for switchgear projects, including single-line diagrams, layouts, bills of material, and technical specifications. This role ensures all project requirements are clearly defined, technically accurate, and efficiently transitioned to detailed and manufacturing. -Attention to Detail: Ensures documentation is complete and error free. -Ensure adherence to applicable codes and standards (CSA C22, UL 1558/891, IEEE C37, NEMA, NEC). -Proactivity: Looks for ways to standardize, simplify, and improve FEED processes. -Select appropriate equipment ratings, breakers, relays, and bus configurations based on project requirements and applicable standards. -Recommend design standardization opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs. -Apply best practices for safety, maintainability, and manufacturability of switchgear designs. -Maintain FEED templates, standard BOMs, and design libraries. -Participate in project kick-off meetings and client design reviews. -Work closely with detailed engineering and production teams to ensure smooth design transition. -Ensure design packages meet client, regulatory, and internal standards before hand-off. -Create FEED documentation packages that clearly outline design intent, including: -Prepare single-line diagrams, general arrangements, and equipment layouts. -Define control and protection schemes in collaboration with electrical engineers. -Interpret customer specifications, drawings, and RFQs to develop preliminary switchgear designs. -Technical Accuracy: Converts complex specifications into actionable, correct designs. -Support sales and proposal teams with technically accurate, cost-optimized designs.

What You Bring

Will remain open until suitable candidate is found. -Strong knowledge of LV/MV switchgear configurations, protection schemes, and control circuits. -Preliminary wiring schematics -Excellent written and verbal communication skills. -Problem Solving: Quickly identifies potential design, cost, or compliance risks. -5+ years of experience in switchgear design, power distribution equipment, or related field. -Familiarity with short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies preferred. -Electrical Engineering Technologist (EET) Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required. -Proficiency with AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar design tools.
