The Role

Overview

Lead strategic natural heritage planning & due diligence for infrastructure projects.

Tasks

-Proactively manage schedules, budgets, technical scopes of work, and proactive mitigation of risks -Assist with Environmental Site Assessments (Phase I & II) under the Environmental Assessment Act, Environmental Protection Act, and Government Property Class EA. -Lead the strategic planning and delivery of natural heritage\environment due diligence across IO business lines and external ministries/agencies. -Provide technical leadership in working collaboratively with stakeholders, regulators, and Indigenous communities to support their needs and objectives, communicate risks, and provide commercial advice and strategic solutions. -Manage and execute natural environment regulatory requirements including survey and monitoring reports, mitigation, and applicable registrations, exemptions, and/or permitting. -Monitor and develop environmental policies, procedures, and performance and identify opportunities for improvement. -Support staff development and cross-functional collaboration

What You Bring

-Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills. -Sound knowledge and experience with Canada and Ontario’s natural environment legislation and guidelines and their application in infrastructure and redevelopment projects, including the Endangered Species Act, Species At Risk Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, Fisheries Act, and the Provincial Policy Statement. -Post-secondary education in environmental science, planning, ecology, or related field an asset. -Familiarity with related environmental disciplines relevant to EA and environmental planning (e.g. cultural heritage, climate resilience, sustainability). -Knowledge of Ontario’s environmental legislation and Class EA processes and experience in Environmental Assessment (EA), site assessment, and/or remediation -Knowledge of government procurement, contract negotiation, and stakeholder engagement.
