Tasks

-Be an active member of industry groups to learn, share and grow your project management and industry expertise -When project changes are identified, assess the impact to the project budget and gain the appropriate approvals. -Identify when project scope is expanding and address the changes first within the team and then as part of the change control process as necessary. -Determine the return on investment for the project and track changes based on changes to the cost or the forecast. -Identify and monitor the critical path and activities that are near the critical path throughout execution to keep the project on schedule. -Mentor other Project Managers and cross-functional team members in best-in-class practices. Provide guidance on how to apply the best practices and share the value that should be created. Review progress and provide feedback on accuracy, quality of delivery and completeness of documents. -Support the collection and application of lessons learned across projects to avoid common pitfalls. -Responsible for the identification and implementation of project management best practices, methodologies, processes, and continuous improvement efforts. -Responsible for evaluating New Project Proposals to assess the project needs, as part of the project portfolio evaluation process. -Maintain knowledge of the primary clients and use cases for products that are being developed. -Work with management to obtain and manage appropriate staffing levels for the project, escalating as necessary when staffing levels are preventing the team from meeting the project goals. -Continually monitor the projects risks and proactively mitigate risks to reduce the potential and the impact. -Formally release team members from a project when the project is complete. -Lead the team to complete the gate deliverables the first time, taking into consideration the viewpoints and expectations from each functional area involved in the signoff. -Assist Director of Program Management with departmental strategic planning to improve overall PMO maturity, application of software, and team efficiency. -Communicate project information within the team, to management, and to other stakeholders through formal and informal presentations, meeting minutes and general correspondence. -Responsible for achieving product quality goals by driving alignment with all stakeholders on product performance expectations. Track and monitor performance to the stated quality targets. -Responsible for reviewing processes and providing solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness. -Lead Steering Team meetings with functional management, as appropriate, to convey progress, remove roadblocks and maintain project alignment to strategic goals. -Assign tasks, responsibilities and communicate accountability to team members to achieve gate requirements. -Collaborate with cross-functional team members to create the project schedule in accordance with established development policies and processes. Examine the schedule for opportunities to optimize the timeline through crashing or parallel pathing activities. -Lead gate review meetings for their project. Communicate the performance to date, any concerns from the team, plans for the next phase and any assumptions that have been made. -Establish and lead a multidisciplinary global team in the development of new and innovative products. Work collaboratively with all global stakeholders (including Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Aftermarket Service, Quality, Finance, Product Management, and Marketing) to ensure the successful delivery of the project. A Sr. Project Manager must be able to effectively lead highly complex projects (number of sites involved, aggressive timeline, level of technical complexity, etc.). These projects may include sub-project teams led by other Project Managers. -Establish a baseline schedule for the project and track the reasons for deviations from the baseline. Gain approval for schedule changes based on scope or resource changes. -Facilitate project risk identification sessions to identify items that may impact the project success. -Identify interdependencies between the assigned project and other projects in the project portfolio. Communicate with project managers so that others are aware of the impact of changes in related projects. -In collaboration with the project team, prioritize risks based on probability and impact and then propose mitigation efforts -Lead Core Team meetings to provide for cross-functional communication and to manage the product realization activities. Encourage team members to share knowledge, innovate solutions and proactively address issues. -Address conflicts within the team quickly and professionally enable the team to perform at their maximum capacity. -Lead the team in identifying solutions and providing recommendations should quality be an issue. -Collect project performance information for on-going data mining and analysis to ensure effective problem solving, solution design, and improved business results. -Collaborate with the project team to establish the project budget. -Prepare written documentation of processes, material requirements, test results and project activity as required. Create / revise G&W standards as needed. -Examine the impact of proposed scope changes to quantify the impact to the overall schedule, cost, resourcing and budget. Determine if there are actions that can be implemented to minimize the overall impact of scope changes on the schedule, budget, and resources. -Writing, publishing & presenting papers in subject matter within applicable industry groups -Provide feedback to team members and functional managers on team member performance. -Responsible for monitoring project budget. Must be proactive in communications when budget overruns are anticipated and should lead innovative solutions to keep projects on budget. -Motivate and inspire team members to deliver assigned tasks with high quality. -Support team members with proper escalation as necessary. -Capture gate review actions to share with team members. Utilize the gate review feedback to plan for the next stage.

What You Bring

-Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification required. -Strong organization, facilitation, and arbitration skills. -Understands program/project risks across organization and is able to influence key stakeholders to pivot or make decisions and recommendations. -Preference for published author and/or involvement in industry publications. -Capable to identify issues and/or problems before they arise. Autonomously resolves an array of medium level complexity issues appropriately. -Preferred experience in development of at least one of the following: Distribution or Transmission power equipment and/or Protective relays. -Capable to lead peers in problem solving methodologies on various issues and develop recommendations for solutions. -Excellent communication and mentoring skills. -Be aware of project priorities compared to other responsibilities of team members. -Excellent written and verbal communication skills. -Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field required. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred. -Have a deep understanding of the stage gate process, required deliverables and intent of each phase. -Demonstrated ownership of tasks from cradle to grave, a “driver” mentality, and effective time management skills. -Light Lifting (occasional 25 lbs or less) -At least 8 years of project management experience in a highly technical product development role with experience in new product development of custom engineered products. -Experience with industry quality actions such as PPAP and SPC. -Proven experience with computers; Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project or equivalents. -Strong understanding of good development engineering processes such as lean product development, Design for Manufacturing DFM)/ Assembly (DFA)/ Excellence (DFX), Six Sigma and Lean concepts.
