Oversees and may assist in preparation of drawings and holds responsibility for the accuracy and neatness of work
Provides input during employee reviews
Assists in training, mentoring, and/or developmental guidance of designers and EITs
Maintains a continued focus on keeping up with code requirements, design software, and other industry trends
May travel to and navigate construction sites, some of which may be at high altitudes or small spaces with dirt or dust particles
Coordinates with local authorities, utilities, and municipalities to incorporate associated construction, code, and government requirements
Responsible to develop design approaches and concepts for projects with conceptual input and oversight from EOR
Responsible to perform studies, load calculations, and selection of equipment appropriate to the project design
Attends in-house project kick-off meetings and design meetings
Responsible for coordinating equipment and overall design space requirements with the design team
Conducts project job site visits during construction to monitor progress and observe installed construction and comments based on design specifications, owner expectations and building codes
May need to periodically transport ladders and plans weighing up to 30 pounds
Assists or leads the development of the overall designer man-hour budget and is responsible for the man-hour budget within the discipline; develops work plans for discipline team in accordance with the budget
Maintains detailed records of communications with clients, contractors, vendors, and team members
Frequently use a computer for several hours at a time
Evaluates the work of design colleagues and provides feedback and/or corrections
Performs specific engineering studies and other design analyses using industry software
May need to periodically maneuver over, under, and around barriers as well as climb ladders on a job site
Begins assuming responsibility for project designs under the supervision of the Engineer of Record (EOR) and/or Project Manager and within the Designer’s control and expertise
Communicates design requirements and answers questions from contractors and suppliers during the bid or construction phases
Provides input, feedback, and updates on project schedules and plans work in accordance with the schedule
May collaborate with a team of designers and engineers on the standardization of design practices and procedures, QA/QC, and current issues facing the design group

Eight years of experience with large scope projects
Knowledge of applicable codes and standards
Knowledge of construction processes and terminology
May require overnight travel

Capable of reading and interpreting plans from other disciplines (i.e., architectural, structural, plumbing, electrical, mechanical)

Experience in performing system or project designs with little to no technical supervision from engineering staff

Demonstrated proficient knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, Navisworks, and discipline specific engineering software (i.e., TRACE, HASS, and SKM)
Written Communication Skills – ability to clearly deliver a message through written words using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Mentoring Skills – as a more experienced colleague, is able to provide support and feedback to less experienced colleagues; acts as a source of guidance, assistance, and expertise to less experiences colleagues
Two-year technical degree in an applicable discipline plus 10 years applicable experience OR 12 years of practical design experience
Detail-Oriented – ability to achieve accuracy and thoroughness when accomplishing a task; pays attention to details and is able to understand the cause of a certain outcome
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
