Tasks

-Data Analysis & Safety Planning: Analyze crash data, develop high-crash location lists, and recommend countermeasures aligned with FHWA and NJDOT standards. -HSIP & SHSP Support: Aid in reporting, streamlining processes, and implementing New Jersey’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan. -Mentorship & Outreach: Support junior staff, promote inter-agency collaboration (NJDOT, NJDEP, DHTS), and contribute to public outreach efforts. -Program Compliance: Ensure projects meet standards outlined in HSM, MUTCD, and NJDOT design guidelines. -Project Support: Assist in planning, tracking, and delivering safety and Complete Streets projects; provide technical review and support for design, traffic control, and compliance. -Audits & Stakeholder Coordination: Lead Road Safety Audits (RSA/PRSA) and coordinate with internal/external partners to implement safety initiatives.

What You Bring

-Experience with the NJDOT Roadway Design Manual, AASHTO guidelines, MUTCD, and Complete Streets policies. -Ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including NJDOT staff, local agencies, and consultants. -Bachelor’s degree in engineering, planning or related field is required. -NJPE, NJPP/AICP and or RSP1/RSP2 preferred. -Strong communication and organizational skills for managing multiple projects simultaneously. -Minimum of 1 year of experience, or a Master's Degree, with safety projects and road safety project delivery, including traffic signal engineering, crash data analysis, and safety program development. Experience with the NJDOT Capital Projects Delivery Process highly desirable. -Experience working for a public agency is a plus. -Knowledge of Highway Safety Manual (HSM) and experience in conducting HSM analysis, including predictive methods, and ISATe tools. -Familiarity with FHWA-proven safety countermeasures, crash reduction factors.
