Placement Student- Battery Electrical Engineer

Cummins Europe

The Role

Overview

Placement student supporting battery electric product design and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • product design
  • design documentation
  • structural design
  • vibration testing
  • thermal loading
  • team collaboration

Tasks

-The role also provides the opportunity for getting an insight into the product design and development of the exciting and fast-paced battery electric industry. -Responsible to document design principles across a wide range of commodities & co-ordinate some basic investigation on those designs (vibration, crash, thermal loading, mechanical shock). -Participate within the product development team alongside mechanical, electrical & thermal engineers with particular focus on product design. -Develop an understanding of fundamental structural design, product development cycle & designing in context.

Requirements

  • stem degree
  • cad
  • dfmea
  • li-ion
  • electrical architecture
  • hw design

What You Bring

-Studying a STEM degree, preferably studying for a technical degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Automotive or Design Engineering. -Able to effectively present complex ideas and has an eye to detail and good communicate to cascading information. -Keen interest in electrification and Li-ion batteries. -Basic understanding of Electrical Architecture Calculation (LV and HV system), Electronic component HW design (Resistor, IC Chip, Filters, etc) and Automotive Electrical working principle. -They will have first-hand experience of concept through to detail design and work on proactively identifying potential failure modes via engineering toolsets (such as DFMEA’s, DVP&R’s, 8D & Fault-tree investigation) and determining how these can be mitigated through optimal design. -Opportunity to design components using CAD systems, to meet technical requirements in context with a focus on low-cost, design for manufacture & assembly.
