Design and develop automated construction machinery for solar field installations.

Tasks

-Meet with cross-functional teams to align product strategy and execution -Facilitate product certification through direct engagement with external test labs -Develop solar field construction machinery automation products from concept to commercialization as a member of the R&D team -Confidently communicate design recommendations to peer and management level audiences -Assist with the creation and/or revision of product installation and maintenance manuals -Create product testing requirements and develop standard practices -Execute project assignments in accordance with the fundamental engineering principles of statics and mechanics -Carry Weight: infrequently carry weight and/or lift objects (light to heavy) weighing up to 10 pounds -Ensure compliance with industry standards and established design codes -Build and refine economic models including component cost, supply logistics, installation labor, and product performance -Conduct research and stay current on automated construction machinery market trends and influences -Resolve product issues by performing root-cause failure analysis -Develop 3D CAD models and detailed product drawings utilizing SolidWorks for CAD modeling and Ansys for structural finite element analysis -Develop and manage product FMEA documents and calculation reports -Convert market requirements into engineering specifications -Perform hands-on testing of prototype products in laboratory and field conditions

What You Bring

-Solar industry experience -Noise level ranges from low to moderate (if in office setting) -Travel: up to 35% as needed -Strong knowledge of mechatronics, control systems, and automation technologies -Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to construction machinery such as ISO 12100, OSHA 29 CFR 1926, or ANSI B11. -Excellent communication skills -Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, automation, or robotics engineering or equivalent (advanced degrees are valued and may be applied to the professional experience requirements) -15+ years’ experience with SolidWorks or an equivalent mechanical CAD package -Stationary Position: frequently remains stationary up to 90% of the time and sitting up to 8 hours in a day -Sight: frequent use of sight to detect images on computer, office documents, and office objects near and far -5+ years’ experience in design of automated construction machinery -Advanced analytical and mathematical skills -Experience with static structural finite element analysis software, Ansys or equivalent -Noise level ranges from moderate to high (if on construction worksite) -Experience adapting construction equipment for automated or semi-automated operation -15+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering and product design -Hearing and Speech: frequently communicates with the ability to hear and talk on a regular basis with employees, coworkers, and all personnel matters; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations -Regular attendance, in accordance with the company’s attendance policy and supervisory assignment is an essential job duty requirement for this position -Understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems used in construction equipment -Experience designing custom attachments for construction equipment -Demonstrable experience delivering on engineering requirements in a process-driven product development environment
