Tasks

-Joins piping by means of threaded, calked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints -Plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers -Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding -Secures pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers, using hand tools -Cuts pipe, using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine -Selects type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications -Assembles and installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic -Inspects worksite to determine presence of obstructions and ensure no safety issues exist that would cause structural weakness -Threads pipe using threading machine -Lay-out, fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain pipping systems -Tests piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks -Bends pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine

What You Bring

-Must be at least 18 years of age -Knowledge of system operation and study of building plans or working drawings -Knowledge of piping systems, wastewater systems, storm drain, and other fixtures -Workers must be able to coordinate the movements eyes, hands, and fingers; use hands, arms, and fingers fully -Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at heights as required -Ability to push/pull/lift at least 20 pounds
