Engineer– Geotechnical

Ramboll

The Role

Overview

Geotechnical engineer designing foundations, slopes, and ground improvement using Indian and international standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • geotech review
  • soil sampling
  • quality control
  • data interpretation
  • slope analysis
  • numerical modelling

Tasks

-Review & check contractor / vendor submitted geotechnical deliverables (investigation & test reports, foundation work, etc.). -Assist in planning and supervision of site / subsurface investigations: soil sampling (SPT / CPT/DCPT etc.), field logging, borehole supervision, etc. -Support quality assurance / quality control of geotechnical works: verifying field & lab test results; checking conformity to specs. -Interpret field investigation and laboratory test data; classify soils/rocks; derive design parameters (strength, stiffness, compressibility, etc.). -Perform slope stability analysis (natural slopes / cut slopes / embankments), retaining walls, earth retaining systems. -Carry out numerical modelling / finite element analyses with software tools (PLAXIS (2D / 3D), LPILE / APILE / other pile design tools, SLOPE/W etc.) to simulate behavior, check safety, serviceability etc. -Prepare geotechnical reports, design calculations, drawings, and technical specifications. -Keep up to date with relevant standards / codes (Indian Standards, Eurocodes, ASTM, BS etc.), industry best practices, and ensure designs comply. -Work with the structural / civil / construction teams to ensure geotechnical designs are implementable; provide technical support during construction. -Propose ground improvement / soil stabilization techniques where necessary (e.g. compaction, reinforcement, grouting, vibro methods, etc.). -Design shallow and deep foundations (spread footings, pile foundations, pile groups) according to Indian codes (IS), and with awareness of international standards (e.g. Eurocode, ASTM, BS etc.). -Perform analyses of soil-structure interaction: e.g. pile behavior, settlement, lateral load capacity, interaction between soils and structures.

Requirements

  • soil mechanics
  • finite element
  • geotechnical software
  • plaxis
  • code knowledge
  • geotechnical experience

What You Bring

-Strong fundamentals of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, slope stability, soil-structure interaction. -Ability to perform numerical analysis / finite element modelling. -4-7 years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering (consultancy / design firms / infrastructure / construction). -Good knowledge of Indian standards (e.g. IS codes: IS 1892, IS 2911, IS 6403 etc.) and exposure to international standards (e.g. Eurocode 7, ASTM etc.). -Good proficiency with lab and field testing methods and their interpretation (SPT, CPT, soil classification tests, consolidation, shear strength, etc.). -Time management skills; able to work on multiple tasks / projects, meet deadlines. -Good communication skills: written reports, drawings; ability to interface with clients, contractors, interdisciplinary teams. -Hands-on experience with geotechnical software including (but not limited to) PLAXIS, LPILE (or APILE), SLOPE/W, possibly Wallap, GeoStudio, etc. -Strong analytical, problem solving skills; attention to detail. -Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s in Geotechnical / Soil Mechanics / Foundation Engineering is preferred.
