Provide ASL interpretation for deaf and hard‑of‑hearing staff and consumers.

Tasks

-May interpret for hearing staff and/or consumers to facilitate communication; -In the Bureau of Aging and Disability Services central office and regional offices, Bureau of Education and Services for the Blind, Bureau of Disability Determination Services or ADS administrative offices, serves as interpreter to deaf and hard of hearing professional staff in telephone calls, at meetings, training and conferences and in conduct of routine agency business in an agency program working a set schedule; -establish and maintain harmonious relations with those contacted in the work; -Serves as interpreter for deaf and hard of hearing persons who are agency employees, persons who are applying for or receiving services from a state agency and in-patients and/or out-patients; -Coordinate aging and disability programs and services. This includes employment, education, independent living, accessibility, and advocacy. -Lead on aging and disability issues statewide. -Provides a communication bridge between staff professionals, i.e. counselors; doctors, nurses, therapists and deaf patients; -Stay connected! Log in daily to your JobAps Personal Status Board to track your status and check email (including spam/junk folders) for updates and tasks. -Serve as a resource on aging and disability issues at the state level. -Facilitate communication between hearing staff and consumers; -Accompanies patients to treatment activities and assists in facilitation of communication between staff and patient; -Deliver aging and disability services that meet the changing needs of Connecticut’s citizens. -Interpret for deaf and hard of hearing staff during phone calls, meetings, trainings, conferences, and daily agency operations; -Provides a communication bridge in the treatment and care planning of patients; -Advocate for the rights of Connecticut residents with disabilities and older adults.

What You Bring

-Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license. At the time of appointment candidates may be required to have a motor vehicle driving history satisfactory to the Commissioner or Commissioner's designee. -Experience with Accessibility Laws and the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of Professional Conduct -Experience using interpretation software and assistive devices -all forms of interpreting for the deaf and hard of hearing; -the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct; -Incumbents in this class will be required to travel. -oral and written communication skills; -Experience in more than one Interpreting Setting -Ability to -Please note: The interview process will require proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL). -First shift -utilize computer software. -Referral Questions: This posting may require completion of additional Referral Questions (RQs), which must be completed by the questionnaire’s expiration date.
