Track Surveyour

Scarborough Transit Connect

The Role

Overview

Conduct railway track surveys, set out alignments, process data, and support construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • survey processing
  • topographic maps
  • track geometry
  • control points
  • equipment calibration
  • technical reporting

Tasks

-Recommend corrective actions to engineering and maintenance teams based on survey results. -Monitor field work requiring surveying and ensure adherence to specifications. -Supervise and guide surveyors and assistants to carry out tasks effectively and safely. -Verify as-built conditions requiring surveying techniques. -Perform layout work at different stages of construction as directed by the survey manager. -Communicate with operations, engineers, and subcontractors to complete survey tasks. -Produce topographic maps, alignment profiles, digital terrain models (DTMs), and as-built documentation. -Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and construction crews to ensure survey information is accurate and timely. -Process raw survey data using specialized software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Leica Geo Office, Trimble Business Center, or equivalent). -Perform precise measurement of track geometry parameters, including alignment, level, gauge, cant, twist, curvature, and gradients. -Provide cut/fill grids for earthwork operations. -Verify track geometry against design tolerances during and after construction. -Establish and maintain horizontal and vertical control points along track sections. -Conduct site surveys for new alignments, track renewals, and maintenance activities. -Coordinate closely with the Survey Manager/Chief Surveyor, ensuring all activities meet project and organizational standards. -Plan and implement survey requirements to facilitate construction activities. -Ensure compliance with railway technical standards and safety regulations, including possession protocols and permit-to-work requirements. -Setup, configure, maintain, and calibrate survey equipment. -Maintain accurate survey records, documentation, and stamped submittals. -Complete various field survey requests and measurements as assigned. -Support condition monitoring programs with survey data for predictive maintenance. -Utilize advanced surveying instruments (total stations, GNSS, digital levels, laser scanning systems, and track geometry measurement devices). -Assist in evaluating potential field problems, perform quantity calculations, and support quality control. -Conduct periodic inspections to detect track settlement, deformation, or misalignment. -Prepare technical reports and survey records for engineering, quality assurance, and asset management purposes. -Set out design alignment for new track construction, ensuring correct placement of sleepers, rails, and turnouts. -Provide and verify work control lines and control networks to ensure accurate construction. -Manage and maintain as-built information, digital records, and field notes.
