Data Center Site Operations Technician III

American Tower

The Role

Overview

Monitor and maintain data center systems, providing remote and on-site technical support.

Key Responsibilities

  • preventive maintenance
  • sprinkler monitoring
  • power distribution
  • cooling management
  • cage buildout
  • remote hands

Tasks

-Work with senior technicians to track and complete an aggressive preventive and predicative maintenance schedule. -Monitor wet sprinkler and pre-action sprinkler systems as well as their associated detection devices. -Be responsible for wide ranging, multi-disciplinary day-to-day data center operations including facilities and telecommunication infrastructure, performed both remotely through monitoring systems and on-site when deployed to customer facilities -Responsible for processes that maximize customer uptime in the most cost-effective way by working very closely with the Data Center Manager. Ensure data center problems are identified and repaired quickly, contractors deliver quality services, and internal customer demands are met. -Work on electrical/critical power distribution from the utility/generator main switchgear through the uninterruptible power supply (“UPS”) systems out to the customer load including branch power circuit installations and metering configuration. -Ensure the data center operates at maximum operational efficiency, including analyzing existing operating conditions, recommending new technologies, and improving overall efficiency and cost reduction. The ideal candidate will have the technical ability and innovative thinking cross-functionally, including integrated systems and IT. -Follow direction from data center management regarding the data floor and back of house mechanical loading capacity thereby ensuring that the cooling system is operating at its highest efficiency. -Perform customer infrastructure buildouts (cage builds, overhead installations, rack and stack), cable termination and testing, and maintenance work. Monitor remotely and respond (remotely or on-site as appropriate) to mechanical, electrical, fire protection, telecommunication, and security systems including transformers, programable logic controllers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, surface transfer systems, advanced thermal solutions, power distribution units, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH, wet sprinkler systems and pre-action sprinklers, network equipment, transmission media, cabling infrastructure, security hardware, and closed circuit television. -Assist with the data center’s operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance through use of strong telecommunications, mechanical, electrical, life safety systems, and data center operating procedures knowledge. -Responsible for cross connect installations, cabling infrastructure management, advanced remote hands support, and customer cage and cabinet build outs. -Monitor remotely and perform on-site work (when deployed) on chilled water systems and components, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (“CRAC/CRHA”) systems such as roof top units, computer room air conditioning/computer room air handler units, coolant distribution units, humidification systems, and central plant operations.
