The Role

Overview

Install, maintain, and repair commercial electrical systems and equipment.

Tasks

-May repair faulty equipment or systems -Assist Supervisor or designated person to trouble- shoot electrical branch circuits and feeders -Test continuity of circuits, circuit wiring to insure compatibility and safety of components using test instruments. -Responsible for securing tools and materials from storage areas to complete assigned tasks. -Read and interpret maps, instructional manuals, work site directions, and written instructions. -Direct and work with an Electrician Helper as directed by Supervisor or designated person. -Follow diagrams and blueprints to ensure that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring are installed. -Work in restricted areas (switch gear-room, manholes, utility tunnels and crawl spaces). -Monitor safety per Watson Safety Program. -Connect wiring to light fixtures, power equipment, motors, devices, and other electrical apparatus, using hand tools and power tools. -Coordinate installation with other trades. -Assist Supervisor or designated person with energized circuits and equipment as outlined in the Company Safety Policy Manual. -Accurately install conduit, wire, pre-fab assemblies, panel boards, light fixtures, devices, and other equipment per layout by the Supervisor or designated person. -Perform work at various heights, up to 90” from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks and other safe work areas. -Measure, cut, thread, ream, assemble, and install conduit, using such tools as hacksaw, pipe threader and conduit bender(s). -Positively identify colors of wire and other items as required. -Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers. -Observe functions of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement. -Effectively supervise electrical helpers to complete tasks assigned by a Supervisor safely and accurately. -Complete overhead work for extended periods of time. -Bend conduit by hand with hand benders. -Climb ladders (all types). -Operate two handed tools as required. -Operate and work from mechanical personal lifts (electric or gas powered). -Operate company truck with manual and automatic transmission. -Responsible for getting materials and proper tools together to complete assigned task. -Wear personal protective equipment as required in company's Safety Handbook. -Minimize waste of materials, assure quality of the installation (no re-dos), and be consistent with Supervisors or designated person layout of task(s). -Pulling wire; splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or other means, twisting wires together, and applying terminal connectors and or tape.

-Comprehend reading of blueprints drawings, and schematics same. -Tolerant to prolonged standing and movement on foot. -Comprehend and practice safe work procedures as outlined in Company Safety Handbook. -Demonstrate efficient knowledge of trade. -Job requires employee to have required personal tools with him at all times (waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 lbs.). -Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead. -Must hear and see well (either natural or with correction). -Employee’s personal weight with tools cannot exceed the rated weight capacity of ladders used. -Work in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, or snow. -Capable of digging trenches, either by use of hand tools or power equipment. -Must have the ability to use safely the required power tools. -Must be able to safely operate equipment (trenchers, lift trucks, aerial lifts, etc.). -Demonstrate knowledge of all tools and equipment. -Able to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. -Work from all types of ladders and be able to transport/relocate ladders unassisted. -Able to work 40 hours per week plus overtime as required, to include night shifts and out-of-town work if required. -Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns).
