Machinist / Grinder Operator

Overview

Operate and maintain a 30" grinding machine to grind large rolls with precision.

Tasks

-Read work order and production schedules to determine specifications. -Mount wheels to hub. -Complete daily paperwork. -Check roll diameters. -Use and maintain a variety of precision measuring / inspection equipment -Select drivers and shoes for job. -Make hardness and smoothness checks. -Make roll measurements and roll track measurements. -Perform daily machine/equipment maintenance including routine oil and filter changes and greasing machine and maintain equipment service records. -Perform wheel changes. -Organize, plan and prioritize work. -Remove dummy heads -Operating grinding machine (30” wheel). Select grinding wheels (30” dia.) according to knowledge of metal properties and abrasives. -Follow good housekeeping practice, keep area clean and organized.

What You Bring

-Computer skills required for communication and work creation purposes. -Attention to detail and good work ethic. -Ability to train for operation of all machines. -Maintain close tolerance (microns). -Must be able to lift 50-60 lbs. and work up to 12 hour shift on concrete floor. -Ability to read and use tape measures, calipers and micrometers, including metric measurements. -Good mechanical aptitude and mechanical experience with good working knowledge and experience with powered hand tools. -High school diploma or equivalent. -Some knowledge of hydraulics helpful. -Familiarity with: run out, taper, surface finish, tolerance and blueprint reading. -Experience using lift trucks and overhead cranes desired. -Seeking a grinder with at least 3 – 5 years’ of manual machining experience. -Grind roll up to 2,000mm dia., 14,000mm length.
