The Role

Overview

Perform overhead distribution line work, including installation, repair, and safety duties.

Tasks

-Climbs pole’s and makes necessary repairs -Class C Lineman is responsible for ensuring safety standards for himself and his crew and is responsible for his/her own safety at all times. -Maintains are assigned tools and equipment. -Trim trees along electrical lines and perform related work as required. -Responds to work orders for utility disconnections, reconnections, new orders, and other public works service. -You must stand on-call after working hours as needed and directed. -String wire on new construction or in repairing line breaks. -It is the apprentice lineman’s responsibility to report and all accidents/incidents to the foreman immediately and to make the foreman aware of any known potential safety hazards that may exist. -Sets and connects transformers and other electrical distribution equipment. -Completion of Insulate/Isolate Course Critical review and recommendations from Operations, Safety/Training -Digs holes and sets poles for electrical lines.

What You Bring

-Climbs poles and works at heights. -Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. -Ability to work in inclement weather. -Thorough knowledge of the hazards of electrical work and necessary safety precautions. -Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver License is required. -Duties entail full-body exertion, strenuous lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling. required to stand, walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. -Successful completion of appropriate knowledge and skills examinations. -Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively verbally and in writing. -Completion of formal training program or at least four years of verifiable experience including three years of energized work -Ability to work with angry or difficult customers. -Physical capabilities required to safely operate a motor vehicle, in all driving conditions -Thorough knowledge of methods, practices and equipment of electrical line work -Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen. -Must have ability for frequent travel on needed training requirements and potential for overtime including storm work. -Lifts up to 50 pounds. -Compliance with Safety Performance Standards -Ability to operate service truck. -May be Employee Performance Tested to a higher level with testing and verifiable experience. -Ability to climb poles and perform strenuous duties in a variety of weather conditions. -Ability to accurately read and record data from various types of meter dials. -Skill in operating listed tools and equipment. -Must be able to work outdoors in diverse terrain and in all weather conditions. -Must have a Valid Class A CDL and current medical examiner card -One to Two (1-2) years of experience or equivalent hours. -Must complete OSHA 10hr Safety Training Program within 60 days. -Possesses sight, strength and coordination necessary to safely and effectively operate heavy and light equipment and tools.
