Tasks

Intern Pipeline Compliance Data Analyst/Engineer -Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Gas Operations, Asset Management, GIS, Compliance) to understand data requirements and deliver actionable insights -Ensure all actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission, and strategic business objectives -Collect and clean gas pipeline and compliance-related data from various internal systems to ensure accuracy and quality -Help identify trends, patterns, and opportunities through data analysis. -Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record -Contribute to the development of data-driven strategies to solve business problems -Support the creation of reports, dashboards, and presentations related to pipeline inspections, maintenance, field activities and compliance metrics -Assist in data analysis using statistical techniques and data visualization tools

What You Bring

The Pipeline Compliance Data Analyst/Engineer Intern will work closely with Gas Operations, Asset Management, and other groups involved in DOT pipeline compliance activities. The role focuses on collecting, analyzing, and interpreting operational data related to natural gas distribution systems, including inspections, maintenance, asset attributes, and regulatory requirements. This internship involves working with data tied to the physical gas pipeline network. The intern will develop hands-on experience in data visualization, statistical analysis, and process improvement within a real utility environment. This internship offers meaningful exposure to how data supports safe and reliable gas pipeline operations. Background Check: Required Drug Test: Not Required -All NorthWestern Energy employees are required to adhere to company safety standards and the Code of Business Conduct & Ethics -For engineering applicants: Knowledge related to utility systems, gas operations, energy infrastructure is preferred -Pursuing a degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Industrial, or related) or a technical/data-focused field (Data Analytics) -Has successfully completed freshman year or above -Must provide GPA in resume upon application -Strong analytical and problem-solving skills -For data-focused applicants: Experience with data analysis tools or software preferred (Excel, Python, R, Tableau, Power BI, or similar) -Must be in good academic standing

Benefits

Relocation Benefit: None Pay range: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour (first year interns $20.00/hour, returning interns $21.00/hour)
