The Role

Overview

Supports environmental programs for 611th Civil Engineer Squadron at JBER, Alaska.

Tasks

-Assists with NEPA compliance, including document development and agency approvals. -Responsible for executing assigned program elements to comply with all applicable Federal, state, and local environmental laws and policies. Executes short-term goals and priorities to support the management plan utilizing available personnel and resources. -Provides advisory services on specific problems, projects, programs, and functions in assigned program area. -Supports projects within the 611th that involve conventional and unconventional aspects of environmental programs. -Assists with developing project cost estimates and statements of work. -Represents the installation as the technical environmental authority in assigned element. Serves as an environmental technical advisor in executing projects to the Environmental Protection Committee and serves as a support member on other applicable boards and committees. -Responsible for communicating and coordinating assigned program issues with superiors, team members, higher headquarters, regulatory agencies, other installation units, community and other officials, and/or interest groups. -Assists with data entry and maintenance of environmental databases and governmental systems. Must be able to obtain government credentials required for accessing these resources. -Plans, coordinate, and manage all aspects of assigned environmental programs through application of professional knowledge and skill. -Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work that enhances the safety of the work environment. Ensures adherence to Federal, state, and local codes concerning health, safety, and the environment.

What You Bring

-Ability to effectively use MS Office applications, databases, systems, tools and other resources to reflect understanding and clear insights of processes and procedures. -Ten (10) or more years of experience in environmental science or related field. -Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving variables in non-standardized situations. -Ability to pass a DOD National Agency Check (NACI) background check to obtain any required security passes, network access, and clean driving record. -Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in scientific or engineering discipline. Includes BS Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, and/or Environmental Management. -Familiarity with federal, state, and local environmental control regulations (air, water, and hazardous waste). -Ability to adapt to and maintain a safety conscious work environment. -Communicates clearly and concisely in speech and writing. Demonstrates understanding of and sensitivity to unspoken meaning and nonverbal cues. Facilitates communication across the organization and effectively interfaces with customers, contractor, and site personnel on a daily basis. -Ability to demonstrate, conduct, and conform to a set of values and accepted standards, such as honesty, integrity, reliability, and accountability. -Requires strong interpersonal skills in dealing with others (colleagues and clients) to ensure that customer requests and needs are met. Must acknowledge and clarify customer inquiries, requests, or complaints to ensure that needs are identified, documented and addressed. -Current HAZWOPER certification. -The ability to travel to all work locations. -Current RCRA Certification. -Department of Defense (U.S. Air Force) and State of Alaska experience is preferred.
