Tasks

-Obtains permits, recommends and inspects subcontractor work, and assists with project cost estimates. -May be required to work shift work and is subject to call-out when a problem arises in his/her field of expertise. -Lays out wiring systems per drawings, specifications, and codes; measures, cuts, bends, threads, and installs conduit; pulls and connects wire to circuit breakers, transformers, and other components; splices wires as needed. -Assists in establishing and performing preventative maintenance on electrical, control, lighting, sound, and outdoor lighting systems; secures wiring, fixtures, and equipment. -Installs and maintains emergency power/lighting systems, generators, motors, grounding lines, and sheathed cables; troubleshoots underground systems. -Maintains, repairs, and installs distribution boards, panels, switches, lights, junction/outlet boxes, and related components. -Diagnoses, evaluates, repairs, and installs electrical, control, lighting, security, sound, and underground systems in new and existing City facilities. -Tests circuits for continuity, compatibility, and safety using electrical test equipment. -Perform locates of underground utilities such as gas, power, and telephone during construction activities. -The employee will be expected to provide a standardized set of tools for the trade. -Troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs the Ultraviolet Disinfectant system in pools. -Reviews building plans, prepares sketches, estimates and requisitions materials, and maintains stock of parts and equipment. -Ensures compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations; supervises tradespeople; performs related duties as required.

What You Bring

-Skill in the use of the tools of the trade. -Knowledge of the work of related trades. -Grade twelve (12), successful completion of a Journeyperson Electrician Certificate from a recognized institution and a minimum of 6000 hours of commercial electrical journeyperson experience within the last 5 years. -Ability to work in a variety of positions for extended periods or to climb and balance on ladders or scaffolding while working at varying heights. -Must possess a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver’s license and a First Aid Certificate. -Knowledge and ability to diagnose and repair existing and to install new electrical, control, lighting, security and sound systems. -Ability to plan and prepare cost estimates for the installation, maintenance or modification of electrical, control, lighting, security or sound systems in new and existing buildings. -Successful candidates may be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check per the City of Regina's Criminal Record Check Policy. -Knowledge of the occupational hazards, safety precautions and regulations of the trade. -Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. -Considerable knowledge of standard methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment use in the electrical trade. -Two (2) years current Journeyperson experience in the Electrical Trade in the building construction and maintenance area. -Ability to work safely, locate, diagnose and repair malfunctions in electrical systems, appliances and equipment. -Ability to maintain accurate records of labour, materials and equipment used in the performance of duties. -Knowledge of the general rules and regulations of the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual. -Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and specifications. -Demonstrated ability to operate at heights in an aerial device. -Knowledge and ability to operate thermographic equipment and analyze thermal imaging. -Proof of education is required. -Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, the National Building Code, Canadian Standards Association Specifications, the City of Regina Building Bylaw and other codes and regulations applicable to the trade and job duties.
