The Role
Overview
Maintain and clean railway ROW, trim vegetation, repair fences, ensure safety

Tasks
Remove debris from ROW as needed such as, garbage, illegal dumping, sharps, encampments, trees Etc. Performs any administrative duties related to proper documentation as per PNR Quality Management System. Remove vegetation using various tools such as, weed whackers, brush cutters, chainsaws, pole saws, chain saws, etc. Reporting to the Right-of-way (ROW) Track Supervisor and ROW Track Foreman, the ROW Track Maintainer is responsible for successfully completing day-to-day tasks by meeting or exceeding corporate goals for safety, quality, profitability and schedule, resulting in extreme customer satisfaction. Repair and/or replace fence components as needed, such as posts, hinges, caps, latches, and locks. Responsibly operates company vehicles and/or equipment and ensures all daily maintenance and inspections of the units are completed.

What You Bring
Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, lifts, bends, and moves objects up to 50 pounds on uneven terrain. Able to appreciate time sensitive duties, plan and execute accurately to achieve daily goals and production in a safe manner according to industry standards. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficient use of computers, tablets etc. Ability to understand and efficiently carry out instructions. Certified in Canadian Railway Operating Rules is considered an asset and must be able to obtain and maintain throughout employment. Certified Tree Climber is considered an asset, or ability to acquire certification. Ability to climb trees with proper training, rigging, and gear. Must be able to obtain and maintain Track Inspection Guidelines (TIG) certification as required. A minimum of 1-year related experience in a tree removal / Arborist role. Can successfully completed PNR on-the-job training (OJT). Training and mentorship are provided through each step. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Track Inspection Guidelines (TIG) certification and previous railroad experience is considered an asset. Valid Ontario class G driver’s license required at minimum. Exposed to live track/trains and high voltage. Ability to maintain concentration and mental alertness in a variety of situations. Ability to read and understand specific documents including schedules, standard railway plans and specifications. Works outdoors and able to be exposed to all weather conditions including extreme hot and cold temperatures. Ability to work rotating shifts. Knowledge of the occupational hazards, railway engineering safety regulations and safety precautions of the work being performed. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
