Tasks

-Monitor and report on project delivery performance, schedule, budget, risks, and quality, ensuring proactive issue resolution. -Lead the successful delivery of civil infrastructure projects, providing hands-on technical and project management support during the early stages of the program. -Champion a high-performance culture that values teamwork, professional excellence, and continuous improvement. -Support workforce planning and recruitment as the program and team expand. -Champion innovation in project delivery through the application of new technologies, digital tools, and improved processes. -Foster a strong culture of safety, collaboration, and accountability across all delivery teams. -Ensure transparent communication, proactive issue management, and delivery of value-driven outcomes. -Develop and implement business strategies aligned with Tonkin’s strategic direction, along with program delivery frameworks, project controls, and performance metrics to drive consistency, quality, and efficiency. -Shape and influence the program’s culture, reputation, and brand through authentic leadership and collaboration. -Contribute to business development by identifying new opportunities, preparing proposals, and supporting client presentations. -Mentor and coach project leaders and engineers, building team capability and supporting career growth. -Align program and business strategies with Tonkin’s broader strategic objectives. -Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with clients and key stakeholders. -Oversee program financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and profitability. -Identify and pursue opportunities for operational improvement and service innovation.

What You Bring

-Strong financial management and business planning experience. -Demonstrated experience leading teams in a local consultancy or engineering environment. -Proven experience in civil design and project delivery across one or more of the following areas: Transport infrastructure (roads, intersections, active transport, car parks); Land development (subdivisions, urban development, grading and drainage design); Water infrastructure (stormwater, wastewater, or potable water systems); Public works and community infrastructure -Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (postgraduate qualifications desirable). -Strong understanding of civil design standards, codes, and guidelines (Austroads, Australian Standards, local authority requirements). -Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and practical design delivery. -12-15+ years of experience in civil engineering across infrastructure projects. -Knowledge of quality management systems, risk assessment, and safety in design principles. -Chartered status (MIEAust, CPEng). -Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a collaborative leadership style that builds trust, capability, and engagement. -Understanding of contract administration and procurement processes (AS2124, AS4000, or equivalent). -Proven ability to manage client relationships and drive business growth. -Experience in project planning, scheduling, and controls using tools such as MS Project or Primavera. -Proficiency with design and modelling software such as 12d, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MUSIC, or similar. -Familiarity with digital engineering, BIM, or emerging delivery technologies is highly regarded.
