Tasks
-Performance Management: Respond to personal objectives and use performance management systems to improve personal performance; or monitor the performance of the team, allocate work and review completion, take appropriate corrective action to ensure timeliness and quality, and contribute to formal individual performance management and appraisal. -Ensure that the project quality control procedures are used for the construction supervision works and monitor it for improvement. -Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace; instruct the team in safe working methods; identify instances of risky behaviors within the team and take appropriate action, escalating serious issues as appropriate. -Collaborate with construction management to eliminate any hazards associated with the work that may adversely affect the environment or the safety or health of employees. -Monitor and coordinates all contractors' activities for this discipline. -Organizational Capability Building: Provide coaching to team members to develop their skills. -Client & Customer Management (External): Help senior colleagues manage client and customer relationships by using relevant sales or client systems. -Provide resolution for technical engineering problems within the assigned discipline(s); coordinate application of solutions to ensure progress on site. -Prepare draft site / engineer's instructions, relating to the building mechanical services, as required and issue to the Project Manager. -Monitor material procurement and deliveries to ensure timeliness in support of construction activities and schedule within the assigned discipline. -Review and interpret discipline design drawings and specifications to ensure current re vision level and correct technical execution of the work. -Undertake final project snagging and prepare list of defects for Contractor's action. -Be available to undertake off-site inspections of proposed equipment and materials as may be deemed necessary by the Project Manager. -Initiates and maintains records, back charge procedures, progress reports, etc., as required. -Provide support in reviewing construction submittals from project inception to close-out. -Review contractor's shop drawing in conjunction with the structural and mechanical engineers to ensure engineering co-ordination and advise project manager accordingly. -Review Contractor's proposed sub-contractor(s) associated with the mechanical engineering works from a technical standpoint. -Work Scheduling and Allocation: Assign short-term work schedules to a team of subordinates in order to achieve expectations while following established timelines. -Performs works inspection requests and material inspection requests on a daily basis. -Provide advice to the Project Manager in regard to any mechanical services related variation costs that may be claimed by the Contractor during the course of the works. -Leadership and Direction: Communicate the local action plan; explain how this relates to the function's strategy and action plan and to the broader organization's mission and vision; motivate people to achieve local business goals. -Attend project, site progress and any mechanical services related technical meetings as directed by the project manager. -Oversee junior engineers and inspectors for all mechanical work and ensure that installation activities comply with contractual obligations and quality control standards. -Review Contractor's shop drawings against the design [tender] drawings for compliance with the design intent and return to project manager with appropriate comments / approval. -Review Contractor's mechanical services material proposals against specified technical performance requirements and advise the Project Manager on the appropriateness of the proposals. -Undertake general project site observation / inspection of the mechanical services works for Contractor's adherence to the approved shop drawings and Consultant's specification, good working practices, the construction schedule and health & safety. -Operational Compliance: Identify, within the team, instances of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures and/or relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, reporting these instances and escalating issues as appropriate. -Oversee and inspect all mechanical work and ensure that installation activities comply with contractual obligations and quality control standards. -Assist the RE and/or MEP Lead in performing the contractual duties on site. -Review and comment upon Contractors Operation and Maintenance manuals. -Ensure that materials received meet specifications and established standards of quality. -Interface with the public, especially residents and business owners adjacent to the work to mitigate the construction impacts. -External Communications: Help others get the most out of external communications systems by offering support and advice. -Follow-up with the contractor and support in coordinating with the utility authority regarding connections whenever required. -Review and comment on Contractor's testing and commissioning results and advise Project Manager accordingly. -Construction Management: Supervise others on a construction project, working within established operational systems. -Advise the project manager of any technical aspects of the mechanical services that may affect construction progress, quality and the like. -Undertake prior review of Contractor's proposed mechanical system testing & commissioning methods and schedule. -Organize the accumulation of assigned discipline data for the final project turnover and report. -Quality Assurance: Plan and coordinate testing and inspection of products and processes. Implement corrective actions or continuous improvement initiatives and monitor them to make sure they are effective. -Review Contractor's installation method statements.
