The Role

Overview

Maintain and operate public works yards, buildings, HVAC, and equipment.

Tasks

-Ensure facility security and life safety equipment compliance; conduct fire alarm tests. -May be required to work non-standard hours and shift-work. -Assist with space allocation for storage, office moves, and parking. -Operate equipment and perform routine inspections and minor repairs to maintain functionality. -Monitor building systems and preventative maintenance schedules; complete minor plumbing repairs and cleaning as needed. -Initiate work orders and coordinate trades for maintenance and capital projects. -Perform daily operations, maintenance, and servicing of HVAC systems, boilers, and mechanical equipment, ensuring compliance with provincial standards. Operate computer programs for heating and cooling. -Maintain yard cleanliness, including snow and ice removal, weed control, and litter pickup. -Track budget variances and purchase supplies within authority limits. -Respond to client and tenant calls to resolve issues.

What You Bring

-Knowledge of safe chemical handling and uses for maintenance and cleaning. -Effective oral and written communication skills. -Knowledge of cleaning techniques, facility and equipment maintenance practices. -Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have the means and ability to travel within the City of Regina (a kilometer reimbursement is provided). -Successful candidates may be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check per the City of Regina's Criminal Record Check Policy. -A Criminal Record Check is required. -Proof of education is required. -Ability to perform low-pressure boiler checks and teardowns per provincial standards. -Familiarity with Saskatchewan Boiler Act, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. -Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, heating, and carpentry principles. -Must have or be willing to obtain certification to operate required equipment, First Aid Certificate, and WHIMIS Certification as required. -Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with staff and clients. -The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are obtained through successful completion of the Saskatchewan Fireman’s Certificate combined with three (3) years related experience. -Work independently with sound judgment and problem-solving skills. -Ability to operate maintenance equipment and perform routine checks per guidelines. -Physically able to meet job demands (e.g., lifting, ladder climbing).
